TI Veteran / MVP / Addict Usergroups -- Community Input Needed

Myrm

Legend
Well, it seems that I cannot make a good decision about these usergroups as I have been told by countless individuals, so I will let you guys decide how you want it done.

I have dropped everyone from the TI Veteran group for the time being until this is all sorted out.

Keep this thread on point. I am asking for your ideas and CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms about why or why not the group would work and how it would work.

I look forward to reading your suggestions.

some sort of ranking system would be usefull , so people can work their way on to a rank they would like to have. depending on how much work there would be in makeing a thing like that.

Like there is Blogger rank for people who blog , and doner rank for people who donated.

So something like Posting / Join date / Guides ranks of diffrent kinds would be cool . sort of like achievements in wow i suppose.

500 posts = "insert rank name" , 1500 posts = "insert rank name" = 3000 posts = "insert rank name" etc..

And maybe for join dated diffrent kind of ranks for diffrent years of join dates , no clue what things should be called tho.

As for guides n stuff , it should be the same kind of system as before where you get MVP rank, just with a new rank name i suppose.

Say for example youre able to have 3 diffrent ranks for makeing a guide / join date / and haveing a high post count , IF possible make the system like the ranking 1 in wow where u can chose which 1 you want to be useing in your profile settings something. tho as mentioned im not sure how much work there would be in makeing something like that since im really clueless about setting up a wepsite.

Just some ideas.

My biggest issue with the 'Guide Maker' rank would be how to control it. I mean, do we just give away the rank when someone creates 1 guide? I understand that that is how the MVP rank was started, but the creation of 1 guide does not seem like the equivalent of 3000+ posts or a 4 year registration date.

Just my counter to that idea. Playing devil's advocate a bit here.

hmn good point , also since alot of the guides seem to variate in quality . uhm .. havent really thought that 1 through , but i guess the old "MVP" ranks got handed out by the moderators who think the guides that were made deserved a "MVP" since alot of the guides variate in quality as well.

That is the thing. The MVP rank was handed out by one individual -- Daman. The rank was not administered by anyone else. So, it was based on his judgement alone as to who deserved what. I think that that way of doing things is broken.

Also, trying to get all of the staff to agree on whether or not the person should be promoted because of a guide or set of guides would require the staff to speak about each guide submitter and then look through the post for its qualitative integrity.

I think the 'Guide Author' rank is a good idea, but how it is to be administered is the true problem.

Forgive me if this sounds negative, but you won't be able to please everyone here Masked.

TI Veteran - Based on join date. 1 year member, 2 year member. You get the drift.

MVP - People who post in a helpful manner and sincerely try to be a role model to the community. I think people should be nominated for MVP, then the staff/mods review the persons posts via post history and make the decision. Of course some requirements will have to be met. A brand new person couldn't attain the rank, they would have to have been on TI for quite some time; proving to shown commitment and willing to make an investment to the growth of the forum and the community. It would make MVP a cherished rank, a person who's post would be worth reading and taking advice from. For those who might have been MVP's and the rank disappeared, diligence will quickly award that rank again.

TI Addict - Can be done by post count. Set the amount of posts moderately high to avoid post farmers.

All of this echo's a lot of what's been said, but to me it looks like the most fair way without having to make time consuming decisions on one specific thing.

I 100% understand that I will not be able to please everyone. But, I still feel that talking about this is a good idea rather than me just trying to figure it out on my own.

I agree that TI Veteran should only be based on Join Date. I also agree that TI Addict should only be based on post count.

As for TI MVP, I think I have an idea. I think that I will create a custom mod that will allow people to nominate people for being an MVP. I will be adding a button to the postbit and that button will say "Nominate for MVP". Once a person hits 5-10 (need to figure out a nomination number) nominations, then that user is moved to the 'TI MVP' usergroup. We will, of course, need to keep tabs on who gets into the group itself and make sure that there is no abuse going on.

Thoughts on that?

Sounds spot on. When that person hits the required number of nominations, compare it against negative reports filed against that person and if it's worth the ok, make them an MVP. Spend a few minutes to check them out and award them the rank. :)

So, the best idea would be that when the person receives 10 nominations (I think that that is a fair number), then a new thread would be created in a Staff forum and the staff will discuss whether or not the person should be promoted to MVP.

Here is a breakdown of how it would work for the MVP rank voting.

1) A button will be displayed under the main postbit that says "Nominate for MVP".
2) When the user is nominated, I want to capture the userid that was nominated, the userid that nominated the individual, the threadid/postid that was nominated, the date/time it was nominated, and whatever else I think is applicable in a new database table.
3) When the user has reached 10 nominations (check via a Scheduled Task on an hourly basis), then create a thread in a Staff forum (I will create a new Staff forum for it) that allows the Staff to discuss whether or not the person deserves the promotion. I would like the thread to list the out the threads (Nomination #1: threadlink, etc.), date/time for each nomination and the user that gave out the nomination.

When the user nominates an individual, I would like to ensure that they cannot nominate the individual again. Period. I would like another image that says "Voted For MVP" when the user has already voted for that individual.

So, there is going to have to be a hook check to see if the user has already voted for the individual on each thread view.

That is my coding thought process behind it.

It looks good, but abuse would have be closely monitored. Can't have massive groups of people trying to rush someone who is unfit to MVP status. If not careful, everyone will be an MVP, lol.

In regards to Veteran + Post Addict, I am thinking of the following:

Veteran -- 4 years or longer
Addict -- 4000 posts or more

I do want to keep the numbers able to attain the groups small to make the groups more desired and rare.

It will have to be closely monitored for sure. Any system like that would have to be. The prior owner did not care about the process, but I do.

Numbers can always be changed,(if needed) it's the construction that's vital. But so far so good. :)

I see you've put much thought into how you would regulate the MVP rank but I still think it may generate more work than you are ready for. With only 10 nominations being required before you are to bring someone up for discussion I anticipate abuse even with the username 1 vote limit as Lithogen had mentioned. Many of the kids in this community look for ways to abuse things on a regular basis. Maybe a function that does not allow new uses to vote or something along the lines of a post minimum to be able to vote?

That's not a bad idea; post requirement needed so that way newbies don't get excited and nominate people based on impulse. And like suggested, the number of nominations can always be altered at a later time if needed. Good idea to throw in there Silinrul.

Alright. I am scrapping the 'TI Post Addict' idea altogether.

The 'TI Veteran' rank will be automatically given to those that have been on the forums for 4+ years.

As for the ability to nominate MVPs (anyone can be nominated), only people that are 'TI Veterans' or have 1000+ posts can vote. I think that this will reward the more active and veteran people with a feature that regular users cannot have.

Based on how many people have the ability to nominate, I will adjust the number of nominations it takes to gain a 'MVP discussion' thread creation.

Only allow certain people to nominate for MVP. Don't allow brand new users to do so. Perhaps TI Addict/Veteran/Donor or whatever ranks and other MVPs should be the only ones allowed to vote for MVPs, those who have already shown dedication to the site should be the ones deciding who deserves the title of MVP.
