Thoughts on a Pure F2P Dueling Event?

I was pondering the idea of a Pure F2P Dueling event on NA with @Conzil. Would be cool to see how certain classes play in a 1v1 scenario during TWW and its pre patch. Also as PvP has been in a dry limbo for awhile now, excluding wargames of course. I believe the event could lead to a lot of fun, especially for those who might be bored of PvEing. However I have no idea how many people are still on a trail account. Due to this, I don't know if an event could happen. I also have no idea how starters are doing on other regions. So this is of more of a shot in the dark to gage on how many starters are still active, and if they would like to join.

During our brainstorming, we came to agree on a set list of Rules.

1. This is only for Pure Free to Play's. Starter Trail accounts only. No vets allowed
2. No Healing/tank Specs. DPS Only
3. Certain talents being banned (Frost bomb etc) This is open for discussion as I have no idea what it unbalanced for certain classes and what is.
4. Gear can be gemmed and enchanted, TBC blues/warforged allowed. There was also a possible suggestion to have it in MOP Vendor Greens, this is open to discussion/speculation.
5. No buffs/consumes. Unless its a buff from your class (Mark of the Wild, Arcane Intellect, etc)
6. Professions are a grey area, I'm unsure if grenade belt/bombs will be allowed. Due to the location of the event being TBD, will it be instanced, or world I have no idea.

All of this is of course Hypothetical as if not enough players want to play it simply wont happen. Please let me know what you think and hopefully we can come up with something.

I definitely think this is an interesting idea, but I do think quite a few of us are Vets, and it is pretty close to TWW launch so quite a few will be busy with that.

But to build off what you currently have:
  • Yes, you should definitely start with MOP Vendor Greens and work your way up from there. If vendor greens don't work, try dungeon blues/epics, then add enchants, and then TBC Gemmed gear. TBC Gemmed gear is definitely unbalanced and not every F2P will have the dedictation to farm MoHs
  • Due to the nature of the bracket, some classes (like MM Hunters) are extremely overpowered and will absolutely decimate other classes. Instead of banning certain talents, maybe specs should be banned instead? Or you can ban based on both criteria
  • Engi tinkers should be allowed, at the very least, belt tinkers, some classes don't have a Racial or Class interrupt or self-heal, so it's pretty vital for them to carry Cobalt Frag or Healing Injector
Due to it being hypothetical and not tested, there's going to have to be alot of trial and error to see what works. But it does sound like an interesting idea

The input is very appreciated. All of these points are quite spectacular. The specs/gearing phase will be interesting too see if this takes off. Thank you!

I would settle on dungeon blues with no tert/socket procs. No socket gear in general as farming the gems for them takes a really long time as pure f2p while getting a full dungeon set is considerable quicker. I

If it is restricted to free Non-veteran accounts then why any restrictions? There is no trade to free so can’t get unfair gear, I am not sure if you can get enchants from others. I would think any solo free account obtained gear, gems, enchants, etc would be HARD to get something overpowered that another could not get. I do not know the rules of multiple bnet linked accounts, is there some way to trade to your free account from subbed or vet?

Well in previous expansions certain peices have been banned in wargames. Horned Viking Helm, Balefire Branch, etc. As these items on use haven been extremely strong. Viking Helm in a lot of cases always forced a healer to trinket/bubble. This being a plate Helm, its only usable for plate wearing classes. Thus why the item has been "banned" as it clearly gives one side a strong advantage.
