Now obviously word wont get out on this website, but I wanted to see if this would be a good idea if blizzard made this happen.
For the longest time now, WoW TCG loot has become so unreasonably expensive and inflated, it is pretty unfair for newer players (cata-present) who weren't around for the trading card game when it was being printed, when they are going for in-game achievements that are maybe mount/tabard/pet related. Or maybe even a toy achievement. I have bought 3 TCG lootcards in my WoW career (lol.. career), and I obtained them when they were somewhat cheap early on. But I still missed out on many of the more Grand rewards.
Now, nobody likes removal of content. And Blizzard has been notorious of that for no practical, and economic reason (Naxx, Legendary Mop Questline, and even PvP Teirs). Sure, maybe they were pushed to remove content to rush sub-count prior to removal for the whole "Don't miss out!". But this is temporary and poor choice, in terms of long-term sub count. We all can agree that content is what fuels the player base. Sure, some players might whine if the current xpac lacks in their favor, but a large majority spends their time grinding old content for account progression. Less content = less motive to play.
With Blizzard's somewhat recent launch of Hearthstone, this has replaced the physical WoW trading card game. Thus, scratchable loot cards have become a rarity. But why is this necessary to drop? Many people can argue that blizzard should keep content obtainable in-game, and our wallets closed. But this will likely never happen. That being said, I believe it would be an economically smart decision on their part if they were to bring back the loot feature in their new digital cardgame, Hearthstone.
Much like the hearthsteed promotion, this would give more popularity towards hearthstone from the WoW player base, much like how it affected me and got me playing it from time to time. And it would simply go back to its roots in terms of loot cards.
It's simple:
The rarity for each lootable item, in comparison to the original card game, is implemented in hearthstone. Once a player purchases a pack with in-game HS currency, or money, there is a small chance of the pack containing an additional card that is a loot card. And the reason it must be an additional card would be to not upset the HS player base that does not associate itself with WoW. Once you reveal the loot card, it gives you the option to redeem it to one of your characters on your WoW subscription (battle-net oriented). There is no code, just a simple redeem button since it is all digital now. Certain loot, such as previous times, would be tradable in-game, while others would not. This would significantly reduce much of the real-life transactions between players, and keep it all in-game and purchased with gold.
