TBC Gear and SL rings not usable in Midnight?

  • I character copied one of my level 20's to the beta, I was unable to use TBC gear and the Shadowlands rings on my level 20. Will it stay this way when Midnight releases?

Nobody is all knowing. But it is way too early to take anything you see in beta seriously. It seems that all dungeon gear has level requirements currently, that usually correspond to key levels from the xpac they originated from’s floor or ceiling. For TBC the floor was 25 and ceiling 27.

This is a very initial build mainly targeted at endgame leveling and specific mechanics.

Ilvls have changed but stats have not yet. There’s going to be quite a few iterations.

In short, don’t take anything as bible just yet, just keep reporting what you see here as things change

It's way too early to truly worry about such things.
Things will change, hell in early DF we even had an ilvl requirement bug that lasted a fair amount of time after the xpac got released.
Basically what Chelly said, no panic and have some fun watching them tinker around possibilities, nothing is permanent here.

Too poor atm to buy the early access beta. Interesting ilvl drop on the lvl 25 gear. I am not 100% sold on tbc and slands gear being unuseable at 20 though.

if they do this it makes no sense? 20s have not been a issue in anything for 4 years now since put into XP off BGs with 29s

if it goes thru, this will also affect those 10-11s who were built focused on gem slot gear from BC and WOTLK

btw this kind of beta preinfo was seen on former TBC level 70s prior to the squish to 27. it showed red on glaives, gear from herioc MGT (could be obtained at 65) some gear at first from SW and BT requiring level 30. i was hoping this would not be done this way and maybe 70s would become 30s. when it live my player was level 27 all gear was red. i have mentioned this before as a total miss squish of BC 70s and BC gear was put as same level as WOTLK etc.

i only have a few 20s with head to toe BC/WOTLK gem gear, i have not played them other than parking them in a spot to farm something. still can only hope this doesn't happen

This is not the first time this has happened. Personally, I have been through at least 2 or 3 near full gear resets just since they started doing squishes.
this will probably be fixed, but always prepare for the worst.
The first time it happens to you it definitely sucks, but you eventually realize that's just how it can be long term and you learn to adapt.

Worst case scenario, you have to re-farm a few slots, sometimes even all of your gear.
Best case scenario, you end up with GF pieces that are no longer obtainable, and sometimes even BIS.

Like in the past, Blizzard probably loaded some type of default template for gear scaling while they fine tune the squished item levels. The template probably still had the original level requirements.

Chances are it will get fixed, but these days who knows.
If new drops from TBC dungeons on the PTR also have broken level requirements, then it twill definitely get fixed.

Above all else. DO NOT DELETE unique gear that may seem useless before/after the squish.
We have so much bank storage now that there is little to no reason not to hang on to gear that you worked hard for, or that can only be obtained once.
Hang on to gear and items with unique procs, on-use abilities, sockets, warforged, etc.
They may be useful again in the future, certain types of socketed gear may never be obtainable again.

Before the current meta with TBC/Wotlk sockets and TW gear, Warforged was king.
Before Warforged gear....well it was TBC socket and Green BOE with Sockets
It tends to cycle between a few different types of gear being BIS

When Warforged gear got nerfed, those of us who hung on to our socketed/tert gear from the previous meta were already set for the most part.
Even now I still have a full set of WF gear stashed in the bank, along with tabs full of TW gear, alternate socket pieces, old epic upgrades, and loads of GF pieces no longer obtainable that may not be useful now or ever, but they might, its happened before a bunch of times and its glorious when it does.

    Times Change.
