Stop XP at 70, or 74?

I've tried out some 70 arena twinking lately and ended up fighting against lvl 74s.

Is there any benefit then to stopping XP at 70, or should I level up to 74 before stopping, to get the biggest advantages for arena?

You lose a sizable chunk of stats, ie; haste, crit, resil. and in alot of cases, respect.

Some classes gain noteworthy abilitys, like 71 for 226 ilev Arche axes, 72 for Paladin wings, and the 10-15k hammers as ret, Spirit beasts/masters call as a hunter, etc.

Choice is up to you, but i'd roll with 70, 71-74s tend to get made fun of for 'crutching' and the like, not to mention you cant switch arena teams 71+.

This is what I'm wondering about. I noticed that at lvl 70 I didn't have much less hp than those 74s. Are those 4 levels, stat-wise, an actual downgrade, or? How much hp/resi/stat decrease could I expect?

Also, I'm leveling a paladin, so having lvl 72 for wings sure is a big incentive to go above 70. The fact I wouldn't be able to change teams wouldn't bother me too much, as I intend to play this with two RL friends.

resil drop is huge about 10% depending on how much you use same with haste / crit if ur a pally and jsut want to mess around at twinking 72 is the way to go but if you want to become serious in twinking stay 70 , 71+ is looked down upon by alot of people

The loss comes from the effectiveness of secondary stats. Let's say that between 70-74 your gear didn't change one bit. If you have 40% damage reduction from resilience @ 70, you will probably have about 30% from resilience @ 74. That's assuming the numerical amount of resilience you possess doesn't change. Other stats like crit and haste scale the same way. Basically, if you want to get the most out of your secondary stats, you would want to stay @ level 70. Some classes don't really care a lot about their secondary stats over their primary stats and stand to gain something from either baseline class abilities, gear, or talents by going above level 70.

It's already been pointed out some examples of what certain classes stand to gain.

This is spot on. Well said.

Secondary stats drop about 8% per level above 70, to reach a 33% loss at 74. Because the gear is so strong at 70, most classes do fine staying at 70. I took my resto shaman to 74 for the 25% boost to healing, as I play exclusively in battlegrounds. If I wanted to arena with a resto shaman, I would choose a 70 over a 74 for the extra survivability.

Pretty much this, and in most classes the loss is not worth the gain, hence why with all the advanteges of being 70 i would recommend not to level to 74.

if you really want to be op i suggest going to 75 for an extra talent point!

Lulz what a worthless comment. 75 puts you at the bottom of the 75-79 bracket. 74 puts you at the top of the 70-74 bracket. Derp.
