state of 59s

I'm interested in expanding to a new bracket and I'm thinking of 59s. just a few questions:

1. would a dk be a good first class?

2. Is grandfathering an issue with 59s come cata?

3. how is class balance?

59s is a great bracket to expand into now but just seems to lack numbers atm but i am seeing more and more of them turning up now that we can get games in AV. I'm probably not the best to answer the other questions because i never really played 59 before the merge but DKs are pretty easy to make for this bracket. Personally i went with a 59 druid.

59s are shaping up really well, but the numbers aren't there right now. Which is to say, I'm not seeing games. WoW forum talk says check in after 4.0.3a drops -- several players plan to return after that.

As for grandfathering, losing Zul'Gurub does two things for several classes. First, it loses BiS bracers. Second, it loses shoulder enchants. For caster shamans, we're talking a loss of 3 stam and 4 int for the bracers, and 18 spell power for the shoulder enchant. Hardly gamebreaking. Losing the Arcanum head enchants means another 10 stam or 8 of any other stat. In total, playing against grandfathered 59s will be like playing without a neckpiece. The optimizer in you will dislike the absence, but you won't notice the 2% difference it makes to your game. Playing with or without BoA gear can make a greater impact, and several 59s forgo BoAs. So grandfathering is even less important.

DKs are a quick way to see what the bracket's like; there are very few actual 59 DK twinks around compared to other classes. Roll one up and see what you think!

The recent patch has changed the brackets to x0-x4 and x5-x9 so 59s no longer can do AV with the 60s.

really? you seem to be spreading that around an awful lot and i did not see any changes in the patch notes or anything on mmo-champ. gather some proof pl0x

I haven't been able to get into AV today on my 59 and have every other day. The 60s are also reporting having levels over level 60 in their AV. Also done a few BGs on my other toons and the levels are all x0-x4 or x5-x9.

i have 70's, when i roll them in AV, it's 70-74's now....nothing higher or lower. all the BGs covered by twinks are #0 -#4 and #5 - #9. has been that way for awhile now

Battleground - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft

Levels 10-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 85

players need to hunker down and make a real vote on what brackets to play and play them, right now there is too much division to the point that from i have seen only 15-19, 70-74. and 85 are being played with XP off-capped accounts. imo building a 24, 34, 44, etc. is pointless.

i'm in a mixed twink guild, i have 19's, 29's, 39's and 70's. others in the guild have 49's, 59's, 69's covered, we also have several 79's on our server

I dont know if there are people rolling 74 twinks but If i went 70 it would really only be for a lower level rated arena.

there are people with 74s to try and do better in bgs....and someone said 70+ were in rated arena...so 74 might be the best. the only drawback would be losing stats from scaling. but you gain talents and abilities to counter that. plus higher base hp and mana.
