Also where do I get things like to admin it.. a php page to create accounts etc?

This is the official server software so it uses the minecraft.net auth server. You'd need a paid account to play it.

I'm sure there's a cracked version out there somewhere, I haven't needed to look though.

which you run with

java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui



I just blindly copy pasted the wrong part of the page.
 
hmmm now i get Unable to access jarfile minecraft_server.jar



Even as root access I get that error.
 
try download it on a different computer and upload it to the server

if that doesn't work maybe reinstall java
 
k, I'll give that a try in a bit. I used wget. What's the difference between classic which it says is free and beta. should i be setting up a classic or beta server and for classic where do i get the free client?

Classic is free, and you get all the blocks for free. They are just in your inventory, so its just like a building server. But you can't craft. So you have to make doors with openings. Beta is just regular minecraft.



I would suggest do a beta, but giving us all free stuff, so we can still craft stuff ;)



And to get the classic software.

Click multiplayer classic at the bottom.

then at the top

it will say,

Multiplayer software click here for your own server! or something like that.

If i wanted to do that i would go on a classix minecraft server. I have been wanting to build a town with you guys but no server has been up lately.

its shit building a town when everyone can just /give themselves whatever they need
 
I was on a really good server before. You had to become a member to build in the huge city and if you tried to destroy shit it would message the guy who built it. He would need to approve you =P. I liked the idea....
 
I fuckin miss my Obsidian building on Zuty's server. That plus my Cacti generator plus the cobblestone generator, my building cacti trap and my basement, god I miss that! Took so much time to gather diamond and all the obsidian haha
 
I have no idea how to host one, I guess I could but I also have no idea if I can host with my computer on sleep mode :O
