I don't think we can join covenants, I have done every questline possible that leads up to Ravendreth and to join a covenant I'd have to be lvl60, and that also applies to the pvp vendor at Oribos that sells the pvp covenant weapons. I ain't exactly sure where and how you did that, but perhaps players who already did SL content during its time get access to it?

You can join covenants <=20, but your interaction with Renowned of that covenant is limited to world quests as well as doing the daily Shadowlands LFG dungeon for possible anima to deposit as well as a possible renown level up (have to be in Chromie Shadowlands time to see) and the weekly under the Orbios Inn broker quests for reputation/anima (which if you cannot solo the weekly dungeons, your character needs to be in Chromie time to LFG/select the dungeon you want).
The only useable/buyable covenant items are those that do not require the Grateful Token, or >= 1000 gold but most require at least level 48 to purchase or activate.
Also, no chests and other perks like using the anima to build your Covenant base, but you can store the anima to the max.
You do get your key dual covenant abilities while in Shadowlands.

2. Speak with Fatescribe Roh-Tahl in Oribos.
3. Click red dialogue (skip quests, yes, you can lost acess to the Maw!!)
4. Complete quest Choosing Your Purpose
5. Complete 5-6 quests from the map (speak again with Fatescribe Roh-Tahl)
6. Choose Covenant and go do quests and farm anima (from rares and etc)
Tested on my 20 vet hunter)

Unclear. But it sounds like you didn’t take the 2nd skip from inside oribos which is the issue here.

Ok I need some more clarity.
I have a toon that’s done all the SL quests up to the one just before u pick a Covenant, and I don’t see any options to pick a Covenant.
I then sent a former Remix toon to SL’s. Skipped the Maw from SW when u first accept SL’s at Chromie. But I ended up doing quests all the way to open Bastion?
I’m not seeing any options to skip at Fatescribe.
Can someone please provide greater clarity on how to do this for a simple man like me!

The good skip is the one you can do from SW or Org. This allows you to skip the Maw and directly enter Oribos
The bad skip is a new one just added, and allows you to skip all the dialogue once you’re in oribos. This is the “second skip” Don’t do this
If you’ve already quested past the point where you see this skip in oribos, grats you have nothing to worry about.

I don't see any 2nd skip? Tried with several toons and not seeing this 2nd skip, nor the ability to chose a Covenant.
Going to need a few more details.......

This is a good thing, for you
It seems like you quested past the new skip and now it’s not available to you
This is a good thing because those that took that skip you can’t see are now screwed for most SL dungeon gear

With everyone here suffering the same bug with SL dungeons, I've gotta think that ordinary levelers are suffering with this too.
Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

On my hunter was unfinished quest Torghast, Tower of the Damned (saved him for the access to the Maw), with him i seen the dialogue for the skip Shadowlands company, and later quest on the choose of Covenant.
Access to the Maw I already lost, but I have WQ, can choose Covenant and can receive Anima from the few daily quests in Maldraxxus (+from rare npc and etc)

Have u completed SL’s or unlocked the WQ’s on a higher level? I think that’s what the key is so it can only be done on Vets.
If they give some free time soon I will unlock WQ’s and then see if my 20’s can then chose a Covenant.

Yes, i think you right, situation like with DF, 100% works on Vet
