Since i seem to be one of the few guys around that hasn't got any gold problems, i thought i may aswell write a small guide.
*Who am i?
My name is Caîce, i am a level 19 rogue. I play on the german rppvp realm called "Die Todeskrallen".
This is my twinking realm, my level 80 mage is on de_pve Antonidas. So i have no chance to fund myself with my main.
I started to play World of Warcraft in last September (2008).
*Gold Management
I have read a couple of gold making guides that my friends bought for themselves and they all miss one big issue.
You can make 1k gold in one night for example, but if you loose 1.2k gold the next day you have gained - 200 gold.
This is why I want to start off talking about bankroll management. I played a lot of online poker during the last few years
and therefore i know how to manage my money. However i will try to explain some of the fundamental basics aswell.
Before you read on, the first thing you want to do is create a level 1 alt and run to a major city of your choice. For alliance
i recommend Storm-wind or Iron-forge. If you play horde go to ogrimmar. Now that you have a level 1 alt that you can use for
your banking stuff i advise you to keep it secret and tell nobody about it.
The reason why you just created a level 1 bank alt is that you will use it to store money that you will never use.
When i play online poker or play the auction house i generate money by reselling or winning. However there is always times
when you make loss or are in a temporary down. For this reason i prefer to have a second character that stores a part of my
in-game gold that will never use to buy something on the auction house. It is like a second bank savings account in real life.
The best ratio for this is 80:20. Lets assume you make 100 gold on item sales or just pure ah winnings. In this case you
send 20 gold to your bank alt and keep 80 gold in your normal char. After a few weeks when you first check your bank alt
you will discover a lot of gold there.
After you get about 120 gold on your alt, i advise to set up a guild charter and find some guys to sign it (give them 1g per sign).
From the left over gold buy a guild bank with 1 bank slot. This Will serve 2 purposes.
a) You can store items that you want to trade there
b) Now that you can store gold in the guild bank put your "spare winnnings" (in my case 20 %) in there.
This will save a lot of bag space on your main Char and Give you a lot of extra space plus the added benefit of having your trade
character and the saved money in one view.
While you use 80% of the money to generate more gold, you will find that the 20% saved can add up to a lot.
This will be the money you effectively use to buy gear for your toon and in case everything goes wrong you will have a few gold
left to start over again.
*Gold making as a level 19 twink
To be honest i have been sitting in front of my pc thinking about how i can make this section as general as possible.
There is a lot of factors that are different on every realm. Before we go into how to get gold i want to spend a few general words
on the difference of Realm Types. You will have to try all of the strategies below to see what works on your server.
The biggest difference is weather you are on a Pve or PvP Realm. The second thing you have to be aware of is your realms
population. On More crowded realms the ah seems to be less predictable than on lesser populated servers.
PvP realms have the big disadvantage that you cant create a char of the other fraction to check out their ah aswell.
ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND THAT THE AH IS A MARKET THEREFORE PRICES/OFFERS CAN AND WILL FLUCTUATE!!!
(if something doesn't sell, put it to your bank and rety in a couple of days, etc)
As there are a lot ways to generate income i would like to split them up into the following sub topics.
x Professions
x The Factory
x Playing the Auction House
x General Trading
x Cross Fraction Trading
x Boosting others & Signing Charters
x Professions
Every level 19 twink knows that he has to pick up professions. They add a nice little benefit to the game.
Mining gives extra stamina.
Skinning adds a bit of crit.
Herbalist gives you a nice heal over time spell
Inscription can give you some nice caster offhand items
Alchemy will add mixtology. This will make your elixirs stronger and last longer
Engineering if you don't plan on getting the fishing hat or just like the bombs etc
The big plus of farming professions is that you can level them and at the same time generate gold. After you are at
225 which is the cap for farm profs at level 19. You still have the abiltiy to farm in starting zones for low level
herbs/ores/leather. They sell on the ah for a small price but its a good way to start.
I don't recommend alchemy or inscription for your first twink but if you already have a finished toon it may be really good
to pick one of them up on your second pvp twink. I invested 445 gold in herbs and leveled inscription to 150. After about a
week (8 days) i had made 900g on the auction house. The big downfall of inscription is that you have to have a lot of luck
in discovering not so widely spread minor glyphs.
THE BEST thing that seems to work on almost any realm is to pick up FISHING. Before i leveled to 19 i went out and
explored all the terrain in the barrens and a bit of terrain around vallience keep. (and strangle-thorn vale)
After that i bought myself a fishing pole and some lures. Once you are at the barrens find yourself a nice spot at the
a oasis. Many Twinks will try to run after the fishing schools but that isn't really needed.
According to the add-on fishing buddy (this is a must have) i get about 20% deviate fish if i don't move.
It may doesn't sound like much, but when you start at skill 1 there (100 with a lure) and fish all the way, until
you cant gain any more skill-points there you will end up with 2 bags full of deviates.
Go back to the major city of your choice and find a cook. After your deviates are nice and ready put them on the ah
(25g per stack should be fine on most realms). When you are done, get some more lures and travel to vallience keep
in northend (alliance side). I apologize that i have no clue where to go when you are horde.
Apply your lure to the pole and enjoy the fishing. It takes about 2700 casts to get from 1 to 450 by the way.
Fish there till you reach 450 and keep all the imperial manta ray and darkwater clams you get.
Send the "borean man'o' war" to your bank and keep it for later use if you want to level cooking. otherwise vendor it, as nobody
buys it on the ah.
Once you hit 450 find a cook and get some nice buffood. As a side note: when you have a cook that does you the favor of
producing buff food for you from the mats you give him. Tip him with 5g and let him have a stack of the stuff he cooks for you.
This will make sure that the next time you need some more cooking he will be there to help you.
From fishing 1 to 450 i gained about 2.5k gold (but it depends a lot on your realm). You now have the nice option - thanks to
patch 3.1 that you can fish up level 80 mats.
Once you have gotten about 2k gold i recommend you invest 1k and level cooking from 1 to 425.
I make about 30 to 100g in tips every day from cooking for others. Plus whenever you fish, you save the tip for the cook.
Cooking 1 to 450 is pretty easy, there is a lot of good guides around.
x The Factory
If you have more than one twink, don't get the same profs on every toon. This wll inshure you can craft a huge amount of
items and therefore assist you in gaining gold.
x Playing the Auction House
I would really enjoy telling you more about this, but i am afraid everybody has to try out what works for him.
Generally speaking a good starting capital is 500 gold that you don't depend on.
NEVER EVER trade on the ah with gold that you are dependent on. Its the same with managing a poker bankroll
don't gamble with the money you need for rend and food.
If you have a solid gold management you can even have a few bad days and still be able to keep trading.
You will need some time to figure out what works on your realm, how much the auction house fees and house cut are.
So don't expect to get rich on this overnight. Reselling is good but it is not the fastest way of making money.
Protip: use the auction master addon to scan for stuff that has a too low bid value or is really below the market price.
x General Trading
Here is something that i used to do that worked pretty good for me. when im at the ah and i see some level 80 epic that is pretty rare.
(ie tzun tze bell) i post it n the trade chat and add 50g. sometimes there are fools that buy stuff like this off me. But keep in mind.
This is a high risk way of earning gold.
x Cross Fraction Trading
If you happen to be on a pve realm or have 2 accounts on a pvp realm with one being alli and the other as horde.
go and trade pets from one side to the other this will generate decent gold on most realms and a huge load of gold on
a pvp realm. On my pvp realm i buy different alliance pets for about 50s each and sell them for 10g each on horde side.
Since there isn't too many cross fraction traders on pvp realms the horde prices for certain horde only things will be dirt
cheap and vice versa.
This is what works for me so good: Sell alli pets on horde side (trade them to myself on the neutral ah for 1c each)
and sell them for 10g per piece on the regular horde ah. Once i am up to 100g to 150g i will buy a deviate recipe there
and trade it over to alliance. Where it sells for 500 to 800 gold. (i do this 2 till 3 times a week)
Cross fraction trading is more difficult on pve realms as the prices on both auction houses are about the same because
this can all be done using one account. On a pvp realm you need two accounts.
x Boosting others & Signing Charters
I am not a friend of sighing charters but a friend of mine makes quite some buck on this. He has a level 1 gnome in stormwind
that signs every charter for one gold and above. He also uses his pvp twink to boost twinks of normal players from 1 to 8 for 5g
with his 19. or from 1 to 15 with his 29 twink for 30g.
Dammit, this text is really long by now. Sorry for my bad english&the wall of text.
I hope to have given you a good idea about some money making tech for twinkies.
Go ahead, try some of it out and see what works for you.
All the best caîce (200k on char, 300k on guild bank)
