Revitalizing Jewel Doublet and Runeblade of Baron Rivendare: Uptimizing their healing interaction

I’ve been thinking about the healing interaction between Revitalizing Jewel Doublet and Runeblade of Baron Rivendare. The Jewel heals every 10 seconds whereas the Sword heals every 5 seconds. If you have both equipped when you log in, I suppose that they both start counting the healing intervals from 0 at the same time. Every other time the sword heals it will therefore do it at the exact same time as the jewel. It will look like this:

5 seconds: Rivendare proc
10 seconds: Rivendare proc + Gem proc
15 seconds: Rivendare proc
20 seconds: Rivendare proc + Gem proc

This will often lead to overhealing and some waisted healing potential.

The ideal situation, in other words, would be if you could off-set the synchronization of the two items. An easy way to do that is to unequip one of the items and equip it again after 2-3 seconds. That way, the two items will start counting their respective healing intervals at different times and you will get the healing from the two items spread out nicely over a 10 second period. If you for example equip Rivendares sword 2 seconds after the gem has procced you will get a healing pattern that look like this:

(0 seconds: Gem proc)
(2 seconds: Rivendare equipped)
7 seconds: Rivendare proc
10 seconds: Gem proc
12 seconds: Rivendare proc
17 seconds: Rivendare proc
20 seconds: Gem proc
22 seconds: Rivensdare proc
Etc.

This “de-syncronization” of the gem and sword should assure that more of the healing-procs are actually healing you and not waisted as overhealing.

The strange thing is, that the healing procs from Rivendares sword does not show up in the Combat Log or in Recount! But you can easily assure yourself that it actually does heal: Unequip other items that provide passive healing and equip Rivendares Sword. Inflict some good fall damage on your toon (fly up, fall down, take some good damage but don’t die) and you will notice that after max 5 seconds your hp will shoot up with the exact amount of health that the tooltip of Rivendares sword says that it regenerates every 5 seconds.

I have tried this healing “de-syncronization” of Gem and Sword on my (non-bis) lvl 20 retribution paladin when soloing Old Hillsbrad Foothills and it worked wonders. I practically didn’t have to heal myself during the whole dungeon except for 2-3 times where I threw in a quick Word of Glory. One caveat: I’m not sure if the de-syncronization is reset when you enter a dungeon or go through a portal. I would personally do the de-syncronization after I had entered a dungeon or travelled through some kind of portal, at least until it has been made clear how exactly the internal healing-clock of the two items are working in that regard.

So, I guess that this is a way to make it easier for certain classes, at least in the lvl 10-20 range (that are not lvl 10/11 Fury Warriors), to solo dungeons in dps-spec. I’m thinking Retributions Paladins, Arms Warriors and Frost DKs. And lvl 11 Fury Warriors with a Rivendare Sword can of course become even more invincible (…is that actually a good thing…?:D)
