Reminder: using legacy mode in the Collector's Bounty event for gearing

Dungeon loot can drop in one of two ways: standard and legacy.

Standard mode is how any current dungeon works, any TW dungeon and any dungeon where you are at or below the max level (eg level 30 for TBC/WotLK, 35 for Mop/Cata, 40 for WoD, 45 for Legion, 50 for BFA, 60 for SL, 70 for DF). It works like this:

• Each boss will drop 1 or sometimes 2 drops in a full group
• Each person will only get at most 1 drop
• The average seems to vary by dungeon but is around 1.5 drops per boss I would guess
• If you're in less than a full group the chance per toon of getting 0-1 drops seems to remain the same so the total number of drops is fewer
• Any loot will match your chosen loot spec. By default this is your current spec but you can change you rloot spec to any spec for your class
• Any loot will match your level
• These items are tradeable within the group
• F2P/Vets cannot trade, as per usual
• The Collector's Bounty event doesn't seem to increase drops in any Standard mode dungeon that I have seen

Legacy mode works a little differently:

• Each boss will drop 2 items from its entire loot table
• The items will be spread "evenly" in the group. So if there's 1 person they will get 2. If there are 2 people, they'll get 1 each. If there are more than 2, it'll round robin some or just be random but it'll even out over time regardless
• The item will match the level of whoever loots it
• These items are tradeable within the group
• F2P/Vets cannot trade, as per usual
• The Collector's Bounty event increases the number of items from 2 to 4

How do you trigger legacy mode? Either having someone above dungeon max level in the group (with party sync disabled) OR just have someone zone in. They don't need to kill anything. They don't need to stay. The dungeon is now flagged as legacy.

So you can get more loot per run in legacy, particularly now, BUT it's not personalized. It's not clear to me that 1 toon getting 2 items from the entire table is necessarily better than 1 toon getting 0-1 personalized items. So why use legacy mode?

• You want an item that isn't on your loot table. A good example is the https://www.wowhead.com/item=178769/infinitely-divisible-ooze from Plaguefall. According to the dungeon journal it's not on any warrior loot table. You can get it via legacy mode
• With the current event you can 4 drops instead of 2 in legacy mode
