Problem with a shadowfang deal

So about 20 days ago, another fellow 19 twink made a thread on twinkinfo on that auction house section looking to sell a shadowfang. Since I was looking to buy my 2nd shadowfang for my rogue, i pmed him and eventually we came to a deal of 90 USD for the shadowfang and I would get the shadowfang on the server he had it on. So on July 17, we decided to go through with the deal, and like i always do, I made a character on his server and he showed me the shadowfang in trade so this comfirms that he did have it.

I had never used paypal before up to this point, so I made a paypal account and added 90$ from my bank account. We were communicating to each other through realid, and I sent him a payment to the email that he gave me, and chose instant transfer. Here is a screenshot of the payment

I sent him the money, he checked his paypal and said he just needs to wait for the money to get into his paypal account, that it should only take a few minutes, an hour at most. he didnt get the money that night, and the next morning he sent me a twinkinfo message that he had not gotten the money yet. I waited a little bit and a few days later, he said he still had not gotten the money. I kept in touch with him and about 5 days later he said that the payment was now showing up in his transactions, where it wasn't before and that we should be good to go in about an hour. I waited and got no reply. He had made it clear that he would message me as soon as he got the money, so i waited.

After about 1 week from the day he said it was showing up in his transactions (about 12 days since i sent initial payment) i sent him a message on twinkinfo asking if he had received the money yet. He got back to me and said "I still have not recieved the payment.. its no longer on my active sales log.. so it was either denied or sent to the wrong place..." This was odd because I knew i sent it to the right email because i used the same email to add him on realid and i dont think it could have been denied because on my paypal account the transaction showed complete since the moment i made the payment which makes sense because i chose instant payment. Since the exchange i have not gotten the shadowfang it has been hard to communicate with him, and i have heard that it is gone.

I am wondering if anyone has ever had an experience like this where they have sent a payment but it was not received by the person it was sent to. I know that before i sent the payment my paypal account had 90$ after i added it from my bank account and my balance has been at 0$ since i sent it. Since he no longer has a shadowfang, i just want my money back and if anyone knows/ has tips as to how we can solve this problem that would be great

I just did 3 of these exact same transactions through paypal for shadowfangs (still a little sad I don't have em anymore). We did it both through donations and actual payment. They all didn't show up in my paypal account immediately - I got an email saying that you have received X amount of dollars from Joe Smith's email (this took like 2 minutes maybe). Can't remember exactly how long it took to post, but I think it was like 15min - 30min.

Unfortunately, any way they send the money it can still be charged back to them for up to 90 days. Even if you donated the money you should be able to find a button to claim you made a mistake and start a case. Virtual goods aren't covered under their terms so the buyer typically wins from what I understand.

There's gotta be a leap of faith on either the buyer or seller's end in cash transactions so it helps to get a feel for the other person's character (call them on phone, read their old posts, etc.) or gauge your risk tolerance. Check how long they have been posting on Twinkinfo and see if anyone knows them. I made a thread to help with cash transactions so stuff like this doesn't happen. If you feel he screwed you, please post it under the Trade Vouch List so it doesn't happen to others.

Might be useful to mention who it was that you dealt with so others will spread the word about shady dealings. I would also see what you can do to cancel or get Pay Pal to return payment. Good luck.

So I am going to go ahead and join this thread before it gets turned into something it is not. A couple weeks ago Flamer and I were talking back and forth on private messages pertaining to the shadowfang I was selling and had posted on the auction house forums. Him and I went back and forth a few times about a price and he was new to buying things online and I let him know paypal was the only way I feel safe using my real life money to sell or purchase things. After a few days of conversation I agreed that I would sell Flamer the Shadowfang for 90 USD. The next morning I had a pending transaction from Flamer on my paypal account for 90 USD. This was obviously for the shadowfang so I kept a close eye on the transaction to make sure when it went from pending to completed i would be ready to trade him. I wanted to be as quick as possible with the transaction to keep a rep as a good and quick seller. This transaction never completed… Still today the transaction says “pending”

Because Flamer contacted me several times saying he had made the payment and It wasn’t in his bank account I even contacted paypal myself to ask the details of the transaction and as to why for over 2 weeks I have had a pending transaction. My response from paypal was that the 90 Dollars from Flamer was unavailable from his source of payment connected to his paypal account. Then went on to say that until Flamer himself canceled the transaction or fulfilled his payment method with $90.00 that the transaction would stay pending for 90 days.

Ah I see. Well if the transaction has not been completed yet you should be able to cancel it from the front page of your paypal account. I had this problem a few weeks ago. For me it was because I had to change my "secret questions" because I could not remember them... For security reasons paypal prevented me from doing any kind of payment for a few days (3 days I think). You might have a similar problem.

Edit: Just cancel the payment and try again later. Contact paypal if the problem persists I guess...

paypal takes 7 days to transfer money from your bank account to theirs. unless you have used a credit card for the funds. i use paypal on ebay occasionally (if im not a broke ass) and it takes exactly 7 week days to clear.

I just happen to notice the SS he posted and its the dates and amount from the USD he tried to send me..

So knowing its the transaction connected to my account i figured i would go ahead and let it be known the details..

I have tried everything, called paypal asking if i could get my money back but since i sent it as a personal payment "gift" i could not dispute it. Next i tried opening a unaithorized transaction dispute; Basically i was saying that i was hacked and the hacker sent the payment. After 5 days a paypal investigator closed it probably found that i had sent it myself. I found no option to cancel it and it says complete on my side. Nakedplumber can you elaborate on what you were saying about changing the secret questions? I am out of town but will be back on tuesday now that i have heard what you said kreuzer, i am thinking maybe it was a problem with me making a paypal adding a bank account adding funds and making the payment all in the span of an hour. The thing is my bank account has had 90$ tAken out with paypal in the description and this happened several days after i made the payment. Kreuzer i will call paypal with these details on tuesday do you have any additional details that may help me when i contact paypal?

As long as you have a documented $90 taken out of your bank account and transferred via Paypal, something about this doesn't really add up.

Nothing really interesting. I changed my secret questions answers and they "locked" my account for 3 days to make sure I did not get hacked or something.

I am not suggesting that you do that - just saying it is pretty suspicious on the seller's end.

you got scammed...paypal is no clown operation and is used by big business such as walmart, etc.

if paypal says they sent him the money he got the money, if that person as he claims never got the money you should be able to retract the payment

if you made the payment as a purchase, you can leave negative feedback on paypal just like one would do on ebay
