Need some help with planning professions pls :S

Zerged

Legend
So I'm playing a Bloodelf rogue atm, lvl 20. I'm following this guide (http://www.twinkinfo.com/f148/sekcmustards-rogue-guide-32888/) concerning BiS items.

I found out the more complicated stuff is planning professions because I can't trade, use AH etc.

I already read this guide here (http://www.twinkinfo.com/f148/comprehensive-profession-guide-lv20-f2p-22950/) but I still don't know what profession to pick in which order, what items are useful/necessary, which ones can be skipped and also what mats to farm and bank.

I already started leveling enchanting only to find out I will need a Runed Silver Rod later on for some blood elf only enchantment. So I dropped enchanting and leveled BS and Mining. I created my Runed Silver Rod. But I want to avoid this mistake from now on, if possible.
Cooking, First Aid and Fishing are no-brainers imo. I'm all leveling them and I won't have to drop them anymore. The only item which would interfere with my main professions is Thistle Tea, which I will need Swiftthistle for. And this can only be obtained by herbalism afaik.

Now to the other professions:

Alchemy seems to be interesting but a lot of the recipes seem to be hard to obtain (once learned, do I lose them if I drop the profession and pick up the profession again at some other time? Also buffs from potions disappear after death, right? And I seem to die quite often vs those huntards. And you can only have 1 battle and 1 guard elixier up at a time?).

Engineering seems to enable you to craft some nice stuff but also those items seem to require engineering to use them, so is it worth taking it and not dropping this profession again?

Inscription, don't know anything about this tbh. In the guide it says 'guard' and 'battle' behind the scrolls, so is it posible to use one of those in conjunction with elixirs or do they "overwrite" each other? Also do you lose the buff when dying?

Jewelcrafting, is it worth picking this for the Coarse Stone Statue? Other than that I could craft Simple Pearl Ring but that's it I believe.

Other professions I don't really have much questions about them except maybe in what order to pick them? And what are the "best" professions to keep (passives etc) at the end for a rogue like me?

I know it's al ong post but any answer is appreciated :)

Think about which profession(s) you want to be your last, if they aren't alchemy or engineering, then the order in which you do them really isn't that important. People go through the entire cycle of professions every month for Dark Moon Faire -- they don't really take that much time to level. However, if you do plan on taking either one of those, know that dropping them will mean either the temporary loss of functionality of some items (engineering) and/or the loss of your rare recipes, such as swiftness potion.

Do not drop alchemy if you have learned swiftness potion! I think, for a rogue, swiftness potion is a must. It would then follow that alchemy is also necessary. If the recipe drops for you early on, resist learning it. Just put it in your bank. Forget it is there! Only consider learning the recipe if you are absolutely sure you will never need to drop alchemy ever again. DMF will tempt you if you don't have ever single vanity item. RESIST!!! *,,,,*

Uhh...anyway, I usually start leveling with skinning and enchanting -- stockpiling enough leather to make enough armor kits for as much gear as I think I might want. I disenchant every green I get, and all the ones I make skilling up leatherworking. By the time I'm near pre-BoA BiS, I have enchants and armor kits for my current and future gear, and I'm more or less ready to WSG.

That's how I do it. There are many paths to success. The key is not dropping the gathering profession corresponding to your the production profession before you are absolutely sure you have enough materials to level up the skill and actually make the stuff. Doing that is worse than rolling an alliance hunter.

TL;DR -- Don't drop alchemy if you have learned swiftness potion.

Start with Skinning and Leatherworking to create two stacks of Medium Armor Kit ( For future use )

Because you are a belf, learn Mining and Blacksmithing. Craft yourself the Runed Silver Rod . You can also craft some Rough Sharpening Stone / Rough Weightstone & Coarse Sharpening Stone / Coarse Weightstone for future use and strength throw weapon (optional).
Learn Enchanting. Disenchant the items from Leatherworking & Blacksmithing. Buy / Loot greens & blues. Enchant your gear. Craft your stacks of scrolls ( I recommend 1 stack of each enchant ) .

OPTINONAL : If you want to craft yourself Brilliant Necklace or Thick Bronze Necklace learn Mining and Jewelcrafting.

For a rogue you need Scout's Medallion.

If you don't want/have LFH... Learn Mining and Engineering to craft yourself Flying Tiger Goggles . In this case you have to stick with Engi .. but you can keep mining for the Toughness and craf bombs like Rough Copper Bomb, Coarse Dynamite, Small Seaforium Charge ( world drop schematic ).

Other option in this case is : Engi + Skinning for Master of Anatomy.
If the headslot it's not a problem anymore, you can drop Engineering and Mining for Alchemy and Herbalism.

Alchemy ( Mixology ) & Herbalism ( Lifeblood and gy flowers for opponents ) are the best choice. You can craft Holy Protection Potion , Elixir of Minor Agility ( 6 agility with Mixology - world drop ), Elixir of Giant Growth ( 13 strength with Mixology ), Elixir of Minor Fortitude ( 42 hp with Mixology ), Swiftness Potion (world drop) and Swim Speed Potion ( good for AB ). You need herbalism if you are using Thistle Tea.

Good stuff from vendors : Healing Potion , and all the Inscription scrolls ( for teammates )

If you really want the belf only enchant you'll have to level bs before enchanting.
You also want leather working for the armor enchants. The order doesn't matter that much though, an easy way to level enchanting and not have to fill all your bank slots is to pick up enchanting multiple times, after both bs and lw, for instance. Then just save the mats.

He is right.. You are belf so BS before Enchanting :p

Well I don't think the Weightstones and the Sharpening Stones are worth it for a rogue because they don't stack with poison. Am I missing anything here?

What do you mean by " gy flowers for opponents"?

About this: "Good stuff from vendors : Healing Potion , and all the Inscription scrolls ( for teammates )" Can you buy that stuff from vendors, especially the scrolls? I thought you have to craft them yourselves?

Also I still would like to know if scrolls and elixirs stack together or if they "overwrite" each other?
Also is it worth picking up Jewelcrafting in the process to craft some Coarse Stone Statue?

Otherwise great posts so far :) Thx

You can have 2 elixirs/scrolls on you at a time, 1 battle and 1 guardian.

And no, JC for the statues is not worth it.

Oh yeah. I just gave hime my usual non-belf routine. In the case of a belf, level-up mining and blacksmithing first for sure. Doesn't take long. Maybe get enough materials for goggles, if you want them. However,I would do this before you start getting a lot of green quest rewards/drops because you when you start out you don't have much storage space, and to not take advantage of all that dust would be a shame.

Either way, when you start out, you have limited storage space, so you doing something like mining and skinning at the same time can be difficult.
