n00b question about engineering: Gnomish or goblin?

I never committed to either but picking either of them significantly cheapens the cost of levelling cataclysm engineering. My guess is that most people favour gnomish but its hard to tell with all the new expansion stuff being available. Is there a 'right' answer here and if so what is it?

Not really. I like gnomish more for funnier stuff, but goblin has some good boomboom stuff. 6 in one, half dozen in the other.

If it's anything like it used to be in the past, Gnomish engineering offer mostly BoP stuff? So, pick Gnomish, get all the BoP stuff, then go Goblin.

I would pick Gnomish, for the sole reason of Ultimate Gnomish Army Knife . Damned thing can be learned at Level 1 Draenor Engineering and can be crafted easily with enough Primal Spirits.
And can also revive dead people, was really handy in a botched Halls of Valor (Odyn) encounter.
(Edit: It also makes a great substitute tool instead of crafting other tools that need you to be 100+ Engineering in classic)

You do not need to pick anything to craft that. Just go to garrison, build engineery-thing and collect gearspring parts.
