Mist of Pandaria: 19's Last Hope?

It’s December of 2008 and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has just released. There is not one task as important as logging onto your account and checking out the content. As the loading bar moves slowly across your screen, you cannot contain the excitement you are experiencing. Suddenly the world engulfs you with hordes of players trying to sneak a peek at what few have seen. This is the start of something great.

In the history of the 19 bracket, it has always been noted for its activity and competitive players that follow the small community. With the launch of Wrath of the Lich King brought new styles of game play, abilities, and a different atmosphere overall. Before we knew it, the bracket was more active than ever; people began to transfer to Ruin Battlegroup (US) with aspirations of premading and to follow the crowd of active players. Many would dub this time in 19’s as the Golden Age of Twinking.

Nearly two years pass and players learn that a new expansion is quickly approaching. Since there were few ways of knowing definitively what would come with the release of the new content, people were ecstatic for something different. Unfortunately, we must enter these new changes with blind hope and many were greatly disappointed with World of Warcraft: Cataclysm once they saw the content. Its flashy exterior and hyped up reviews were nothing more than a cover-up to what would be considered the worst time in twinking history.

Everyone has experienced the imbalances that exist within the 19 bracket (e.g. hunter damage), and one that has been hit just as hard is the inconsistency of quality players. This grey area may range from someone being too under geared to compete or a lack of skill. With the implementation of patch 4.0.1, which introduced the new abilities before Cataclysm, many players were instantly put off by the burst damage. Seeing that the future was looking grim, many decided to leave the bracket which crippled 19’s that much more.

As with any great uprising, there tends to be a great depression. We experienced Wrath of the Lich King with all its glory, but now we find ourselves in the Dark Age of Twinking. Looking at the glass half full is the only way to handle this situation; with news from Blizzard that a new expansion is on the horizon, it is looking bright for the future of our bracket.

Shocked by details of a new class and race, balancing of damage and healing, and having abilities revamped once again makes World of Warcraft: Mist of Pandaria look extremely exciting! All we can do is hope for the best and pray that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Good read!

Nice write up! Looking foward to working with you.

The only reasons that the bracket has ever entered a great depression over are one or both of the following -

1) GY farming, unsportsmanlike conduct, and overall immaturity. To have a fun, functioning community/bracket, it has to be enjoyable. By killing all potential new players over and over at their GY, they're getting the message that that's what 19s are all about and give up on the bracket.

2) Lack of skilled players. This is definitely intertwined with the previous, as that kind of crap really annoys everyone, skilled players included. Don't feed that "life's tough, get over it" bullshit, this isn't life, it's a game. It's supposed to be fun lol. If you want the bracket to stop being trash, stop queuing with 4+ skilled players and owning the GY.

Simple as that, but apparently not as easily done than said.

Was a nice read though, become a blogger :)

This is true to an extent. However, it isn't what caused the "great depression" of twinks. What started it was the huge imbalance between classes that Cataclysm brought (Compare hunter damage/survival to that of a shaman/warlock's). The GY farming and lack of skilled players just adds onto it. Not to mention, GY farming didn't become, "accecptable", until a bit after the changes to the actual GY themselves were released live into the game, and that was way after this depression started. Although, said changes are what caused most skilled players to leave, but it still isn't the main cause.

Generally, great read Beau. A wall of text that I actually didn't stop reading after the first few words. :)

To break it down to it's simplest form, yeah you're 100% right... problem is, BGs aren't pure imbalance. It's people that take that imbalance and use it to their advantage, causing not only class imbalance but faction imbalance.

Good post yo!
I hope da difference in queuez changez? so we get faster queuez in all bracetz. or any queuez at all lol

Yeah factions do shift every now and then, but that's something I can say has been going on ever since the faction change service came around.

Good read Beau. I disagree with much of the assumptions but good job otherwise.

First up the Golden Era of twinking is BC as Cataclysm is the worst thing that happened to twinks. Activity took a nose dive with the vast majority mothballing their toons. Those few that hung on long enough and were able tried the move to Ruin and two thirds of them quit within a weeks, turned off by the insults, afk'ing, drama and general disrespect. To this day over one hundred players who I sold on moving to Ruin have abandoned 19's in my guilds there. They still love me but my credibility took a hit.

The only hope for the 19s is for the bracket to die. It is almost there already. Only then after the stench has worn off and depending on the quality of people at the core can it rise again. Sounds harsh but it is the truth. If the core community of the bracket was that appealing and it was that fun we would not be discussing the search for hope.

Good read idd, can't wait for the new expansion. I have really big expectations! :)

I agree with some of the posters here. I feel MoP WILL be amazing for PvP.

I feel that MoP is basically a patch to correct mistakes and such, masked as an expansion. It's more about fixing content, while adding a few interesting things, unlike the other expansions, which were "MORE CHANGES, MORE CONTENT!" Like I said, MoP is just going to fix current content, while adding a few interesting things to keep endgame flowing. ^_^

Too bad they are neutering rogues though. They could have just lowered the ambush damage IMO, instead of ruin their utility.

I have good vibes for MoP, and I may return to the 19 bracket. I am currently leveling a fury warrior to 19.

imo BC golden age (only because i didn't go to ruin :( )
lets hope MoP brings a whole new look at twinking for all brackets!
maybe all brackets will come alive if we get the balance we were promised. but remember blizz promises many many things and usually don't deliver.
anyone remember those bad ass worgen mounts we were promised?

Burst has always been the culprit in Cataclysm. Look at videos made in BC and even Wrath and compare them to Cata ones. The burst is just through the roof. If this issue is not fixed, then it won't matter what Blizzard does about anything else.
