Minor Wizard Oil

Be careful when making it that these do not stack. If you make 10, they will take up 10 inventory slots. I made 15 on my shaman thinking they would stack and they did not. I now have a full 16 slot back of these.

it's better to keep the components ready so and craft them when you need 5x1h last a good moment :)

Is it worth it to stick with enchanting just so you can have these on a caster? Or is alchemy better?

what would you use with alchemy? mana pots? speed pots? if you play in premades maybe, but for pickup bgs i prefer having a buff you don't loose when dying

I like having all buffs.

Concerning storage, 5 per stack isn't so bad, considering that the buff lasts an hour and persists through death.

In my opinion Alchemy is a better permanent profession due to Mixology. I intentionally stock my bank with a full bag of Oil and four stacks of Strange Dust, and whenever I run out I drop Herbalism for a very short time to re-level Enchanting, make more Oil and drop it again to re-level Herbalism. Levelling Herbalism in Tirisfal and Hillsbrad is fast and I need the mats anyway.

its absolutely not worth sticking with enchanting...and alchemy is way better even without the speed pot recipe. reasons:

1. like everyone said, you can make oils really easy from a stockpiled stacks of dust (which you can get just from vendors).
2. Having Alchemy when you pop a Wisdom Elixir gives you +11 intel instead of the base +6...so with alchemy you get the full effect of both the oil and the elixir.
3. the oil stays on the weapon when you die, so you get the full 1hr duration. all other buffs fall off at death so you're going to burn through WAY more elixirs than oils.

After you stockpile all your enchants, Enchanting really shouldn't be more than something you powerlevel real quick to stock up on oils. You can alternate between herbalism and enchanting when you need the oils. Healers imo (and most casters) should all go with Alchemy and keep it.

Exactly. :)

if you want an interrupt, you might also want to take engineering 30+ to have the bombs, it's really easy to level up.

so the idea would be keeping alchemy, stock up oils, herbs and then take engineering ( and alternate between herbalism and enchanting when you need to make some pots/oils).

you can only use the bombs if you keep engineering. ...alchemy vs. engineering is a largely different question than the OP's. ..and that boils down to personal preference (with class/race factors thrown in) imo.

As I understood it he/she meant Alchemy and Engineering as permanent professions with occasionally dropping the latter to level and drop both Herbalism and Enchanting?

While that is personal preference of course, I permanently want Lifeblood Rank 2 from Herbalism.

yeah, for casters, engineering might not be the best choice unless, of course, they enjoy tossing bombs.

How much does this heal?

I'm in it for the 20 second haste buff. The heal is negligible IMO, but just in case I'm relogging to Yde right now to test it, so I don't throw around wrong numbers. ^^ Will report.

EDIT:
Alright, I was retaking Halaa and hitting Lifeblood in between runs and while waiting.

Wowhead says: Value: 30 to 90
17 x non-crit Lifeblood: 38 to 94 (average of 63.1)

3 crits in 20, values 134, 158 and 166

IMO indeed negligible.
