Manning in Denver

The race is on for Peyton Manning. There's a lot of opinions on where he should go and which teams should pursue him. I'm a huge Manning fan (I've been a Colts fan since I worked for them in high school and a Tennessee fan from birth) so my opinion is rather biased. But I was rather excited when he decided to come check out Denver (I live there).

I can't get into the details but I had a pretty awesome experience yesterday to be the first to greet Peyton to Denver. My son and I were in the airport hangar when he got off the plane and I was rather surprised to find out that no one else was allowed to be there (save 3-4 airport employees and the Broncos staff there to pick up Manning and Co.). It was one of those moments that sports fans live for. I'll be telling my grandkids about it for sure.

News helicopters were buzzing everywhere and I was able to find us in one of the news helicopters aerial pics. My son, who is 8, was pretty stoked about being on the news and the whole experience. Here's the link if you'd like to see what Inkobah looks like irl. ;) Look for the black and gray shirts in front of the other plane in pic (I'm in the black shirt).

Anyways, I'm sure to many of you, you couldn't care less but thought I'd share it with the sports fans about. It was quite an experience. And I hope Manning ends up in Denver (if he does I might have to become a Broncos fan).

Anyone else had a moment like this? I'd love to hear other stories.

I wish I could give details but I don't want to get anyone in trouble...hence why I didn't tell those details. I can say that I was expecting the media to be all over that place but the airport told the media they couldn't be there. I was absolutely shocked that it was just us there.

AZ definitely has some pluses. I think it's going to be between AZ and Denver personally. I know a lot of people are talking up Miami but I don't think Peyton wants to play in the AFC East (Brady 2x a season and will be competing with the Patriots and possibly the Jets each season). The NFC West and AFC West are easier divisions. You might think that Peyton might not care about that but I think from what I know about him and knowing he's got limited chances to get another ring he's going to think about what team will give him the best shot at a playoff spot and more.

Of course, AZ has Fitzgerald who is easily one of the best receivers and had a great 2nd half of the season last year. They could be contenders in the West with and without Manning, but they'll have to challenge the 49ers. Jim Harbaugh was the QB for the Colts when I worked for them. He's a smart guy and I think he's got that team going in the right direction. Anyways, the big negatives with AZ is they don't have a ton of cap room (comparatively) and they're speculating that their LT is going to get released...bad news for any QB (especially a guy like Manning).

For Denver, they've got a solid, young LT and a good amount of cap space which would allow them to sign Manning and a few of his frends (since everyone seems to think he'll want a few former teammates to come along). Plus the AFC West is a joke. The only weaker conference is the AFC South and it doesn't seem like he's looking to go to Houston, Jacksonville, or Tennessee. And that's not to mention that Denver has a descent defense, good line, good running game, and cap room to fill some holes (WR, S, etc.). Oh and it's worth mentioning that the guy calling the shots in Denver is a HoF QB which could be a factor (but possibly not).

It doesn't look like we'll have to wait too long to see. All indications point toward a decision by Tuesday (the opening of the Free Agent Market). I'm sure biased on my reasoning because, while I'm not a Broncos fan, it'd be great to have him in my city. So take that into account as well. But I really see it coming down to AZ or Denver. Your thoughts?

Edit: I don't think the Tebow thing will create problems. Tim's a guy that knows how to handle himself under any circumstances. I know he's young and a lot of people don't like him but he's handled himself very well in all the hype and criticism last year. He can handle this imo and they can co-exist...but if Denver wants they could trade Tebow and pick up a stud receiver. Jacksonville is hot for Tebow and he'd help sell tickets (which they're struggling to do right now). Also, Jacksonville picks #7 and the best receiver in the draft is expected to go around 8 (Blackmon from OSU)...might make some sense.

Going to Denver would be a big environment change, idk if he'd wanna do it even though they do have a pretty good team set up. If I were him I wouldn't wanna go displace tebow either just b/c theyre so nuts about him up there
i just hope he's healthy anywhere he goes, would hate to see him play like a fallen farve
