Latency Issues - Help!

I just hooked up my computer tower today, and everything is the same as it was when it was connected before. Except for an issue with latency.

Now usually when I have had high latency, there will be a high latency value (latency located at the bottom right-ish part of a blizzard UI screen). Then, I'll disconnect. Also, to fix the connection, I can usually just disconnect the internet, then reconnect it.

However, I've been logging in, having yellow latency (normal), and then suddenly I disconnect. If I log in again, it will usually be under 1k latency, then I'll disconnect. Sometimes I cannot stay on for longer than 2 seconds without disconnecting. I cannot fix the connection via manual disconnect and reconnect unlike most cases.

There was a time I knew I was disconnecting...and when I went to video options, and changed the resolution, it basically reconnected me, and showed 4k latency. I disconnected soon afterwards. Seemed kinda weird because it showed the actual latency.

The computer is not directly linked to the internet, it is connected via router from a computer in the same house about 20 feet away, as it always has been. Most of the time I've not had problems with the connection.

Now those are the clues...but what is the problem? I suspect there is a missing wire, as I reconnected it, but I'm not sure what besides the router determines the connection strength.

I don't care if suggestions/answers are, just take potshots if you have to. I'm kind of taking any ideas you might have. Thanks in advance.

Since ISPs rarely actually want to help you with your issues, you have to troubleshoot it yourself. The way I do it is try and figure out which part of my system is creating problems.

So I have a few questions/suggestions to troubleshoot

-are you only disconnecting in WoW or is your entire network d/c'ing? if it's just WoW it could be router/modem/firewall settings. if it is just wow, enable DMZ in your modem settings and disable your firewall, then try staying online. if the problem is still there, disable DMZ and enable your firewall.

-if it's just WoW and that didn't help you, call your isp and ask for help. tell them you're having problems staying connected to a game and they'll walk you through packet loss testing and some other stuff

-replace ethernet cables 1 at a time with a new one. it could be you ran over one with a chair and it got messed up. this eliminates ethernet cables as a problem

-connect your computer directly to your modem. this will eliminate everything between your modem and your computer as a possible problem

-if you have removed these from your list of problems and its still going on, call your isp. there might be a problem with the line going to your house, you might need to replace your modem, or something changed in your computer that needs to be looked at

after you phone your isp they should have a log of every time you d/c from their servers.

Phone your ISP after you've gone to www.speedtest.net and compare your actual connection and what you're paying for.

a speed test won't help him if he's just having problems with disconnecting
