is it wow expensive

if you wana buy wow now, and you buy all 3 games, classic bc, lich... well it's almost 100 euro just the searials.

in my experience i don't know a game that costs 100 euro (50 euro max)

then is the subscription...

now... i am thinking.

if 11,5 million people pay 15 euro a month... that is around 150 millions euro a month...

in one year around 2 billions euros (+expansions...)

now, how much the servers cost ?

well, in my opinion... NOT 2 billions euros.

Maybe... let's say 100.000 euro a server(which is a huge sume)

now... how many servers are? 100? ... well ... this means 10 millions per monts

150 millions for a year...

2.000.000.000 - 150.000.000 = 1.850.000.000

So, Blizz can make the subscription 2 euro and will still have a profit.

but i gues money is not importont for an adict

it's probably more than that, it costs probably 100,000 euro per year to hire 3 blizzard workers, and there are a shitload of blizzard workers. i don't know if GMs get paid, but i know there are more than 3 people per server working on WoW. (customer support...phone line pplz...bug fixing pplz...money counter pplz)

most of your estimates are inaccurate...but it would be nice to find a credible source to reveal just how much blizzard is profitting.

lol my spanish teach told my class europeans used periods instead of comas in their numbers (in america we do 1 million as 1,000,000) and she said u used comas as decimals (we call them decimal points, since we use a period...do u guys call em decimal comas? lol)

when we do graphing coords we do like (2,5) or (1,3) how do u guys do it?

note: if i sound offensive im not trying to be, just saw this post and thought it was interesting that i had just talked about that, so i posted

We use comma's in England mate

Also the lowest wage working for blizzard I think is the janitor, who gets $28,000 (£20,000, 20.000€) and also gets free WoW subscription.

True fact.

i don t think so

GM can be hired from europe... even from 3rd class countries... you don't need to pay them 30.000 euro a year

but maybe they do pay them this much but i don't really think they are server dedicated.

Once i asked a GM from Balnazzar Eu to empty my mail box in Spinebreaker Eu cause i couldn't move my twink to other server. He did it in 2 sec .

This proves the fact that GM can slide from one realm to another very easy.

I think they are dedicated to Battleground - 3 or more per battleground, and a battleground has 10 servers... so go figure

I am actually from Romania and here we use dots for 1.000 thousand etc

Comas we only use it for a number that is lower that 1 , for ex : 1-0,4 = 0,6

and i find it dumb to use 1,000 for thousand etc... but americans do it.

yeah our founding fathers or some corporate retards back in the 1700/1800s (i don't actually know) decided to just make everything different from europe, now i learned it the 'american' way. it's just the way it is

http://www.cnn.com/TECH/space/9909/30/mars.metric/ lol

about the estimates of blizzard's profits, they just aren't that accurate, you'd need to see some actual evidence to calculate the amount they are profitting.

While im sure Blizzard is still raking in a killing you guys left out some major stuff!!

Pros

CD sales

subscriptions

item endorsments (T shirts, hats, action figures, etc)

live events (blizz cons 1 2 and 3)

and various other things

Cons

keeping up servers

paying your workers

producing all these things

comcerials

Think about it guys, blizzard has a hell of alot more costs and money profits than just the game it self, hell look on the first page...they are endoring there shirts on the header.

im sure you missed out some stuff

but if i was making almost 2 billion euros a year i wouldnt be too upset.

The 11.5 million players are not all paying the same amount. My guess is that it's 11.5 million accounts. There's an estimated 3-5 million players playing WoW in Europe, Oceania, and the Americas; they all play the subscription and the amounts you listed. However, the other half of that number are players in China, and they pay by the minute. Blizzard isn't making anywhere near a billion in China, even with 5 million players there, due to laws, the economy there being different, and royalty issues with the company running the game there for them (basically it's subcontracted or some such).

So to make it simple, I would basically take the number you came up with, and cut it straight in half. There, that's probably closer to the revenues they're making. Still quite a lot, though obviously they have a lot more expenses than just running the servers.

I'm not concerned about how much Blizz is making so much as I'm worried that the merger has compromised Blizzard's traditionally rigorious quality control for the sake of a quick buck. 3.0.8 is bug ridden with even some things they knew BEFORE they released it. Wintergrasp fix was epic fail... and not epic awesome like Kite-able Kazzak or Corrupted Blood.
