Identifying an 80 twink

Aelobin

DK Twink (80 / 85 / 101)
I'm looking for some criteria that would be able to tell the difference between a twink and non-twink at level 80.
- It must not include old WotLK characters who haven't been playing.
- It must not include levelling characters that have gotten some decent gear from quests/dungeons.
- It must have some kind of "tolerance" since not every twink is perfect (with regards to items/gem/enchants).

Any ideas?

Hey Aelo,

Are you talking in reference of trying to spot the non-twinks on the battlefield?

Nah, just by looking at data pulled from the armory :)

I was thinking maybe something like:
- They must have been active within the last 6 (or 12?) months
- 50% (or 75%?) of items are greater than or equal to ilvl 251
- 50% of all enchantable items are enchanted

I like the idea of checking an achievement (such as BRC), but some "twinks" are insistent on sticking to WotLK only. Whilst I don't agree with them doing so, I'd still class them as twinks.

I'm struggling to nail down a definitive set of criteria for this program I'm writing :S

I've just thought of a fairly simple one: Specific enchants. Since the wotlk ones are rather hard to obtain, things like Scorched leg armor, Twilight leg armor, Ghostly spellthread + the savage armor kits. Might be a simple answer to your problem. As well as most dps using chaotic metas instead of the relentless one (non-agi users ofc).

I've thought of a few basic rules that might work together. For each of these, the 3 weapon slots are counted as 1 slot.
- They must have been online in the last 6 months (this is a non-twink related criteria)
- 4 (or maybe 5) of their 7 enchantable slots (not including head/shoulders due to rep) must be enchanted
- 10/15 items must be ilvl 264 or higher. This could be changed to all items and/or a higher ilvl.
- They must have at least 1 spec (talents were wiped on Cata release)

Not sure whether to include glyphs, dual spec, progress/achievements, professions or average ilvl. I like your idea about the leg enchants Splosion, but I'm worried it would skip someone who was genuinely trying to twink just because they haven't got their enchant yet. I guess I need to decide whether it should include twinks in progress or only those that are near completion.

Any thoughts? I have a feeling these criteria may not be strict enough (mainly the ilvl one). I want the results to include both WotLK and Cata geared twinks, but not any 80s that are just abandoned mains from WotLK or those that are levelling (so probably haven't enchanted their gear).

Talents were actually wiped with 4.0 afaik, which means that anyone playing between the shattering and cataclysm, but quit before release would have talents, but not any new gear. I figure they will be out of the activity range anyway, however. You could put an average ilevel of say...265, to rule out all the normal-mode people who still play level 80s (Question if those people count as twinks, but 80s can technically be bank characters (Nexious @ Lightning's Blade - Game Guide - World of Warcraft For example, although he is level 81)

Maybe any enchant that requires maelstrom crystals and/or heavenly shards?

lvl 80 with both prof's maxed?

Lvl 80 with maxed Alch and 359 trinket with a Cata gem? (Queen's?)

Okay, the criteria I decided on were as follows:
- 75% of items must be ilvl 264 or above
- 50% of items must be ilvl 270 or above
- 5/8 enchantable slots must be enchanted (not including head)
- They must have at least 1 spec that contains 2 prime glyphs and 1 major
- Must have been online in the last 6 months

The reason I need to determine a twink from a non-twink is for a little project I'm working on. The aim of this project is to find all the 80 twinks across Europe (and maybe the US afterwards). So I applied the above algorithm to 10% of the realms and this is the output I got: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AnBPvCvqWJ3udERFR1ZnREhZXzQ0WlBiY295VzYtU1E&output=html

As you can see, there are a lot of non-twinks still in there so I'll need to refine the criteria to make them more strict. Any suggestions?

If its possible, you could add that they should have over like 1-1,5k achi points, since a lot of levelers dont have that, but like 90% of twinks have :)

I'm a bit reluctant to take achievement points into account as some 80 twinks may have used scroll of ress and not done much since gearing up.

A few other things I've considered but not included are:
- Gems because I didn't want those using some WotLK items to be penalised when those with only Cata would never be
- Professions because although they're powerful, they're a pain in the ass to level
- Item quality because there's such a spread of greens/blues/epics that I think it would be too "risky" trying to nail down a criteria based on that

Some ideas I'm toying with at the moment:
- For an enchant to be counted, it must be WotLK level or above (with a few exceptions for good enchants)
- Require 3/2 prime/major glyphs instead
- Check that all slots have an item in (not sure on this one yet)

Yes i know that.
But while gearing up they will most likely get the achivement points needed.. They almost certainly will if you set it to 1k points. :)

Reduced the original 311 down to 191: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...WlBiY295VzYtU1E&single=true&gid=1&output=html

Changes since I last linked the spreadsheet:
- Must have 3 prime glyphs and 2 major glyphs in a single spec (up from 2/1)
- Must have 6 enchanted items (up from 5)
- If the item quality is green, the item must be above ilvl 278 to be counted

Might add a few more checks (enchant quality / empty slots) tomorrow.

i know tails i played with in same guild for very long in like whole icc times and togc times.

Hes very nice he got 3 hunters with scarab lord and he didnt lvl his hunter to 85 becuase he wanted to solo sunwell as lvl 80 hunter :)
