hunter pet

is there a good(rare/speicel) pet for the hunter at 29 bracket?

i was thinking on spider or Heyna but are there any Rare ones of them? it it really matter if it was rare before the tame anyhow?

dont see why rareity really means anything...as far as i know there arent many good hunter rare pets at this level.

.

There is 3 rares which are decent two of which you have to bring up from lower levels. snort the heckler ( rare hyena elite 17), Humar the pridelord ( rare black lion 23 elite) and Narraxas (elite rare spider lvl 27). I prefer the ghostpaw alpha for wolves. Tamable at 27 and come with higher level howl.

Depends on your playstyle, i have a spider/humar/wolf. I find for my build (high RAP Dmg dealer) the wolf is by far the best. I like going stealth with humar and using rapidfire from a nightstalker bow sometimes too lol.

There's plenty of rares that are 20-29 as well as from 1-29 that you can choose from. And since your pet comes within 5 levels of your level when you tame it it makes it a little easier to make a choice of a lower level pet if you tame it when you're level 20 and level it up. Some options that are 20+ though, are:

Blind Hunter - lvl 27 elite/rare Bat, has a ranged stun and damage effect

Big Samras - lvl 27 rare Bear, has a swipe attack

Any of the elite boars in RFK ranging from 24-26, has a high damage gore attack (they have armor on them giving them a more unique look)

Vultros - lvl 26 elite/rare Carrion Bird, has an aoe demoralizing shout effect

Humar the Pridelord (personal favorite) - lvl 23 elite/rare Cat, has prowl and a bleed effect

Ghost Sabers - lvl 19-20 Spawned cats that have a ghost like effect, no real difference than other cats though

Barbed Crustacean - lvl 23 elite Crabs in BFD, has an immobilization and damage effect attack

Large Loch Crocolisk - lvl 22 Rare Crocolisk, has a retaliation like damage attack

Snort the Heckler - lvl 17 (not 20+ but the only rare hyena pre-30s) Rare Hyena, has a slowing attack

Deviate Viper - lvl 19-20 Elite Viper, summoned in the final portion of WC, has a ranged poison spit ability

Naraxis - lvl 27 Rare Spider, has the web immobilization ability

Leech Widow - lvl 24 Rare Spider

Chatter - lvl 23 Rare Spider

Creepthess - lvl 24 Rare Spider

Besseleth - lvl 21 Spider (has an interesting coloration)

Strider Clutchmother - lvl 20 rare Tallstrider, has an ability that causes someone's next attack to miss (aquamarine colored, there's also a lvl 9 tallstrider that's pink called Mazzranahce)

Kresh - lvl 20 elite Turtle, has a self-damage reduction ability

Ghamoo-ra - lvl 23 elite Turtle (formally the highest AC pet pre-pet nerfs)

Azzere the Skyblade (another personal favorite coloration-wise) - lvl 25 rare Wind Serpent, has a ranged nature damage attack (also worth mentioning are the white Wind Serpents in Thousand Needles if you're looking for unique colors)

Lupos - lvl 23 Rare Wolf, has a ranged and melee attack buff (prior to pet normalization and rare spawn nerfs he dealt shadow damage along with melee damage when attacking, making him ridiculously OP)

Misthowler - lvl 22 Wolf (I used to love this wolf on my hunter as his pursuit speed was one of the second highest for wolves, he looks badass too)

If you're looking for a highly comprehensive website with pet info I'd suggest checking here for more in depth pet information: Petopia: A complete guide to hunter pets in the World of Warcraft.

Rarity used to mean a ton, different stats, superior abilities, some abilities that other pets didn't have, superior armor, faster attack speeds, faster pursuit speeds, and amazing colorations. Nowadays rare spawns mean essentially nothing other than a different colored normal pet and bragging rights. A lot of them still have ridiculous spawn timers, but most have been nerfed making them easier to obtain and less of a humbling experience once you obtain them.

Personally I enjoyed the old pet system that was in the game, taming a rare spawn back then was actually a feat of strength because a lot of them could easily kill you in the taming process. I had to camp Humar's spawn point for weeks pre-BC before I ever saw him and even then, one time he was killed right in front of me by a shaman (which instilled my hatred for horde shamans ever since then.) Point being, blizzard ruined a perfectly amazing pet system that made rare spawns much more unique and valuable to the hunter mastering process than they are today. The only 2 rare spawns nowadays that really mean anything would be the 2 spirit beasts as they are extremely rare and are very unique in design. They also have a moonfire-like ability that is very nice...

Edit: Apologies for the walls of text, it used to be my passion.

Didn't know about lupos, very interesting, but also a pet you would need to bring up from its current level to get higher level howl. The above is very comprehensive.

My advice to you is that if you want more than 1 pet viable for PVP. You wont have enough XP to being them all up to lvl 28-29 so i suggest taming any rare you would like to have that has a level below 27 at the exact level it becomes tamable to you, and level with it by killing mobs greater than that pets level of course. For example i have Humar the pridelord which i tamed at 23 who is now level 27, a Ghostpaw alpha i tamed at 27 who is nearly 28 and narraxas who is also 27.

I completely agree with you about the xp buffer needed. As Ghostpaw Alpha will be essentially the same as Lupos or Mist Howler there's no reason to try and push the xp by leveling both Lupos and another lower level rare spawn. Stats are only slightly variant in rare spawns from other regular spawns. It's not a noticeable enough difference anymore to justify taking mist howler over the alpha if you want a wolf for the ability.

np, clicking the thank button could show appreciation >.> not plugging myself or anything though <.<
