Received my second screech in the Dreamway, the following day after the first one.
Hi all,
Being late to the party in regards to Remix: Legion, I wanted to test out whether or not it was possible for a (pure) F2P account to obtain hidden appearances for artifacts, and share my progress with the community. I am not aware if this is already a well-known fact, but prior to this I had not been able to find any concrete confirmation on how to do this, either on the forum or elsewhere. At first I did not think it was possible to achieve, due to either level requirements or achievements locked to F2P, indicated by users on Wowhead. I did however find a few comments by @Touren in various threads here, and by the owner of this website, indicating that it was in fact possible with Lorewalking, which initially piqued my interest.
Being a main druid myself, it should be noted that the following has only been tested for druid artifact appearances, specifically restoration and feral, since guardian and balance are (still) locked behind f2p-restrictions.
I initially decided on trying to test the hidden appearance for feral, as the prerequisites seemed easier to asses, as opposed to the Acorn of the Endless for restoration being a drop. For general context of the process for achieving this appearance, i refer to the Wowhead guide.
I started out by obtaining the Fangs of Ashamane, and periodically using the macro listed below, as it tests whether or not you are eligible for the 'Daily Dreamway Event Roll', and to begin the proces of obtaining the necessary objects and eventually the Feather of The Moonspirit. The macro was copied from a Wowhead user commenting on the Feather of The Moonspirit.
Based on speculations by other Wowhead users, regarding what is actually required (besides the requirements for the 'Dreamway Event') in order to hear the feral screeches in the Dreamway, I listed the following variables as possible 'triggers' while being present in the Dreamway.
Cho Lorewalking turned on / off
Current / Legion Chromie timeline
Artifact equipped / not equipped
Feral spec activated / not activated
Being / not being in cat form
My first observation was that while I could get the 'Dreamway Event' to trigger by the variables listed below, I was unable to hear the initial screech for a long period of time (+2 weeks).
Cho Lorewalking turned on
Legion Chromie timeline
Artifact not equipped (but in bags)
Feral spec not activated
Not being in cat form
I also noticed that changing any of the variables after being eligible for the 'Dreamway Event' did not change the macros output until the next daily reset. This partially confirmed that additional requirements must be met (for the screeches), as it seemed inconsistent with reports from users, stating that they received their first screech immediately after meeting the initial requirements, and only having to wait longer for the second and third screech. Unfortunately, it did also force me to test a single given combination of the above-mentioned variables each day, as I would otherwise not have been able to tell whether or not a variable (or a combination hereof) was the actual trigger, thus also explaining the longer timeframe. Still, I could not get the initial screech to occur.
I then speculated that the screeches could be tied to storyline/quest progress, and therefore started to run through various Legion content, while checking underway if I could get the first screech to trigger.
Fast forward to today, where I both heard the first screech and also (tried to loot and) obtained the Acorn of the Endless!
This all occurred after I had completed Neltharions Lair: Essence of Tenacity, Halls of Valor: Essence of Ferocity, Darkheart Thicket: Essence of Regrowth and Eye of Azshara: Essence of Balance. To summarize, stated below is the story- and questlines I had completed prior to this.
Fangs of Ashamane and G'Hanir, the Mother Tree obtained (although I was not in restoration spec when I looted the Acorn).
That's Val'sharah Folks! completed (none of the side questlines).
Tears of Elune obtained, part of the Pillars of Creation achievement (Darkheart Thicket: Enter the Nightmare completed).
Fighting with Style: Classic completed.
Up until (but not including) The Way to Nordrassil completed.
While I cannot state with absolute certainty that the before-mentioned variables (besides Lorewalking) and quest completions was the actual triggers for the unlock, it is telling that they coincided immediately with the first screech and drop of the Acorn of the Endless on the exact same day. I could also have been (un)lucky with either the variable combinations and/or quest progress, or even getting the screech and drop to occur. This is just to showcase what I did, if anyone else wants to reproduce my results and also obtain the hidden appearances. It should be noted that at the time of writing I have not heard the second or third screech, but I will of course update this when it happens, which I think is most likely.
I would also appreciate any feedback from others that have successfully obtained these appearances, be it either under the same or different circumstances as myself, or even on other classes/specs, as I would like to eventually compile a worksheet containing the various possibilities and requirements.
