Hi, everyone. I have some questions about low-level BG's

I'm returning to the game after almost 10 years. I used to be pretty big into twinking back on the whirlwind battlegroup (Fourtyounce, aegrus, diabolus for anyone who may have been there back then).

I'm returning, now, just figuring the game out again. And I have some basic questions that google searches are giving mixed info about. I figured this would be the best place for real information. Could you help out?

1) What are the brackets? I've read that they're split into 5-level splits (i.e. 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc), but I often see characters outside of these in my battlegrounds.

2) How does the gear scaling work? I'm just leveling up, right now, using some heirlooms...and I'm not sure. I have some absent slots, like one trinket and one ring. I have some lower-level gear like a level 15 belt (I'm level 31). How does it all work?

3) How big is the statistical advantage for a twink now, versus someone who's average(ly) geared?

4) How active is the twinking community, and what brackets do you find the most activity?

BTW, you'll see me BGing as "Jazzfingers" (alliance priest) and "Brucewillis (horde monk) for the next few weeks, just passively. Don't judge me; I'm super rusty and have no idea how monks work.

1) 10-19, 20-29, etc.

2) A lot of gear scales to your level at the time of obtaining it. So if you did the same quest for the level 15 belt when you were level 31, it would be a level 31 belt.

3) Gear matters again. So... big.

4) Pretty active, but as with all expansions, it will get more popular towards the end of the expansion when people get bored of end-game. I would say 10-19, 20-29, 30-39 and 70s are probably the most popular? If you stand out front of Orgrimmar or in Goldshire, those are the twinks that you see 99% of the time.

1) it's by tens again. The 5 lvl splits didn't last long

2) it doesn't really. You get scaled up to highest level and such but the gear doesn't jump in stats like it used to. But you can get what you need via dungeon drops, largely.

3) I play 20s in 20-29 BGs and I can tell you that the biggest difference between my completely unenchanted level 20 starter account druid and my fully enchanted level 20 veteran druid is largely just the weapon enchant. And the biggest difference between my fully enchanted lvl 20 and a fully enchanted 29 is really just an extra ability or two. The stats are same as makes no difference.

4) predictably, the higher you go in level, the less activity there is. But I'd say 39s are pretty bumping, have a quality feel to the community and probably the most likely to get you consistent, competitive games.
