Help me improve my signature quality!

I was wondering if any of you talented arists have any tips for me to improve my signature quality? I have reacently found some time to work on improvement, which just so happens to be 2 weeks before the busiest few months of my life begins, and I'd like some time fillers until then.



What I'm basically looking for is:



What programs would be prefered to be used? (Free or Cheap for now)

How do I save my signatures under better quality?

Any tips on making my own customized signature backgrounds?



Ect. Any other things will be appreciated.



Edit- I also understand Photoshop is probably the best that can be used, but as we all may know it is very pricey
 
1. Photoshop CS3+ (Obtainable for free - not going to say more than that.)

2. JPG, save as quality 12.

3. Search "Grudge backgrounds" on youtube.

Edit- Also could I get a link to a download? I don't feel like searching for it on my PC, since my internet is so shit on it.

Just look on youtube i mean i got cs5 for free just search up on Youtube "How to get photoshop cs5 free (32-bit or what ever))

I would check MMO-Champion signature thread, they have plenty of tutorial done by the comunity.

All i'v learned, comes from there.
