Has anyone else had a bad experience with a twink youtuber?

Was debating posting this because I wasn't sure how well it would be received. I won't be mentioning any names, and please refrain from spamming me to get a name.

Basically I have been twinking since early TBC, for me it has always been really fun, I had twinks of all different levels throughout the years basically whatever was considered the most popular. I have always been a play that has had a lot of gold, so twinking, getting gear, and buying runs was fairly easy for me to do. I never really focused on end game content too much because just destroying people on a twink gave me way more of a rush vs level capped pvp, or hardcore raiding. I won't go into all the details since that isn't the main point.

So fast forward to now, I notice twinking is picking up again, So I got myself invested into a lot of different youtubers that focused on twink content. I really wanted a lot of these creators to be able to push their content, get videos out sooner, and to get bis gear sometimes sacrificing bis extra socket proc items just so they could make videos about a twink they'll never play on again. I was helping these creators do this for about 2-3 months, I'd always help them with gems/enchants, runs, and I felt like 90% of the time myself and others would need to tell them what was actually bis. Fast forward to now or maybe even a couple weeks ago, these channels have basically used twinking as a stepping stone, they now do other content, lacking responses on discord, and guild chat. The last few parts are what really upset me. I get branching out but so many people use youtube for guides now, and when a few channels just stop helping these communities that they build it makes everyone involved feel used.

I'm not spreading hate to any of these people, but wanna see if anyone else has had a similar experience. please don't use their names.

That is a really odd topic. Personally I don't really see any issue here, whoever the individual is, probably didn't enjoy twinking or just moved on from it entirely. Probably not a commited person as other twinks here. Non is entitled to make videos/guides for newbies, they can do whatever the fuck fancies their boat.

I've helped a lot of newbies and geared them up etc only for them to just never log in anymore and days, weeks even months pass without hearing about them. Does that bother me? No it doesn't really.

But it vexes me greatly when I personally need an item but felt bad about them and gave them that said item only to never even use it/log in anymore. But it is what it is.

Coming at this from the other side I get kind offers like yours all the time and I generally refuse. I appreciate them but I feel like I should pay that person back in some way whether they ask me to or not (generally speaking they don't). That's not really possible for me in any practical sense.

That said if other youtubers were to accept this type of offer-they didn't you promise you anything in return, you shouldn't expect it.

Youtube is incredibly demanding on your time. It is not possible to grow your channel or earn enough to buy food and do much else when it comes to wow. I am physically exhausted by it most days and I often simply do not have the energy for any kind of social interaction on discord or whatever. If you get ghosted by someone you helped it may not be personal or malicious.

Twinking is a niche subject. There are very few types of twinking videos you can make which would make you more than minimum wage. Most people do want a larger audience whether they say they do or not. I did youtube essentially for free for four years but eventually financial pressures meant I had to either go after views or quit. Which means you have to branch out.

A good twinking video might take a week to put together and might generate as a little as $10-20 in adsense revenue. A "wow is bad" video could be made in under a day and generate $100 or more.

With regard to giving back to the community: I'm not really that surprised no one does that. It costs money and people often don't appreciate it or become actively resentful. If you look at the reaction to my video on the twink ban on this forum you can see that clearly. I made that purely as a service to the twink community. No one was speaking up for twinks at all who were being banned: there was this universal assumption on the mainstream wow forums that twinks who got banned were exploiting when most of them clearly weren't. As someone who twinked since BC I felt someone needed to challenge that assumption and no other youtubers were speaking up.

The video worked: it got a lot of attention and some twinks got unbanned as a direct result. The reaction on this forum towards that video however from several twinks was bitter and resentful for no apparent reason. I don't really care: I'm not doing this to make friends or impress people. But most youtubers are to some extent and they are very unlikely to help a niche community like this one if it spits in their face when they try and help it out.

I had a similar experience by a youtuber after getting him into fishing, showing him local spots, LITERALLY SHOWING HIM HOW TO FISH. He was a what I thought a good friend and fellow outdoor lover, seems they are harder to come by these days. Towed him around for years, got a go-pro myself and started making some videos for fun. He now has a following and doesn't talk to me, only time he chirps up is when he's in town and wants to "make content" which he can shove up his ass for all I care.

Two life lessons here, do things selflessly w/o ever expecting anything in return and don't put others first.

A few weeks ago a lot of them probably got smacked with a ban. Either way, they were probably just FOTM gamers or speed levelers and good riddance if they arent twinking for the fun of twinking.

Thanks for the insightful post. I have no concept of how that world works.

I appreciate you putting up the fight against the bans. I was trying to educate the haters and fight them off on the wow forums. So many people think that Blizzard is infallible and that if you get banned you did something that deserved it.

Raise your hand if you've been personally victimized by @CigNus
I'm your only healer, you can't hold W into the whole team......
His old videos got me addicted to Albion Online. Curse that handsome bastard straight to hell.
I've thought about getting back into Albion recently, @Donor tried pulling me into Ultima

On topic though, that can just be how content creators are. I get hyperfixated on things for short periods of time as well just kinda depends where my adhd takes me. I don't even consider myself a content creator anymore because well... I haven't made shit.

I would just try to not take it too personally, someone lost interest in something, that's ok. They're allowed to.
