Hello and welcome to my guide for Level 19 Mages!
I'm fairly new to making guides but I know some stuff about twinks and saw that this needed to be made so I came here to help!
Constructive Criticism is very accepted but please try not to flame the snot out of meh. Haha.
So lets commence shall we.?
Index:
○ Races ○
Now with Cataclysm out, we have lots of new races to choose from.! Every race except for the Tauren is accessible and new races can grant us new abilties which can be helpful to the Mage. Although some Races are better for mages, playing any race is good.
:Alliance: Alliance:
Humans- Every Man for Himself - Spell - World of Warcraft is a very great racial and is what makes mages a great race to play but other than that, he also gets additional spirit but it's only 3%. Still very viable, however. Also, choosing to be a human means you can use and extra trinket instead of using the PvP one.
Gnomes- Escape Artist - Spell - World of Warcraft is like the Humans racial but it only dispels things that are "movement impairing" for example, from Frostbolt. They also get 19 Arcane Resistance which is also good and a 5% increase in their manapool which might sound like a little bit but it's a good thing to have.
Dwarfs- Stoneform - Spell - World of Warcraft this isn't the best racial out there but I guess it can benefit the mage somewhat. The 19 frost resistance can be good when fighting against opposing frost mages.
Night Elf- Shadowmeld - Spell - World of Warcraft Can be a very good spell if used correctly. You can try guard a flag maybe and not fear of an ambush and you can always be surprising your opponent. Also the 19 Nature Resistance is great and the 2% miss chance is also of good use.
Dreani- Gift of the Naaru - Spell - World of Warcraft Probably the only way to get a heal off, this is a great spell. Also the 19 Shadow Resistance you get for being a Dreanei and Heroic Presence - Spell - World of Warcraft are both very good and help a lot.
Worgen- Darkflight - Spell - World of Warcraft is truly awesome when trying to get away with a flag or just trying to get away from attackers while kiting. The 1% increase in Crit is also great and having both Nature AND Shadow Resistance is good; it covers a lot of things that may be otherwise very harmful.
:Horde: Horde:
Orc- Blood Fury - Spell - World of Warcraft Having extra spellpower is always a nice thing and I guess a less lasting Stun is always good.
Troll- Berserking - Spell - World of Warcraft This is pretty good when your trying to get attacks out quicker and the 10% increase in health regeneration is also nice, as well as having movement impairing effects last 15% less.
Undead- Will of the Forsaken - Spell - World of Warcraft Can help when going against Warlocks but you also have 19 Shadow Resistance which also helps with that. Eating your opponents is always nice too. Haha.
Blood Elf- Arcane Torrent - Spell - World of Warcraft Is a great spell! You can easily get more mana during a battle with this and Blood Elfs also come with Arcane Resistance.
Goblin- Rocket Jump - Spell - World of Warcraft and Rocket Barrage - Spell - World of Warcraft are great for getting away and doing damage, respectively. Also, the increase in casting is accepting.
○ Gear ○
I'll try and post the BiS (Best In Slot) gear first and then I'll put other gear that is also good and obtainable if you can't get the BiS. Also the Enchants, if any, will be right next to the item also. Please point things out politely if I forget something.

○ Specs ○
Some people say that some specs are easier than others but many people have different play styles and maybe you can play one spec better than another. Playing all three would be good to see what you like the most.
Arcane: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Fire: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Frost: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
○ Other ○
Remember to have some things like Rumsey Rum Black Label - Item - World of Warcraft and Scroll of Intellect II handy and other buffs.
Also, as professions go, Herbalism is good to heal your self and gives you 55 haste at 225, Mining is good for the extra HP, and Engineering is also good for the help with bombs but you can go with whatever you want. First Aid; however, is a necessity.
With the BiS armor given, you should get 7 Hit Rating which is the hit cap and should be enough for your Mage. Hit rating may sound like it's not necessary but what hit rating does is that it insures you'll get your hits to land on the opponent instead of missing. Even if you get a lot of spellpower and do great damage, what would be the use if they don't even hit your opponent right.?
Also, for choosing which weapons you want, [item] Dignified Headmaster's Charge [/item] is the better option but I listed [item] Dawnblade [/item] and [item] Furbolg medicine Pouch [/item] choice in case you want more Stamina and on choosing on what kind of Enchants you want for the weapons, you can either get Spellpower if you feel you don't pull off the best damage or you can go for the +22 Intellect if you don't want to be worrying less about running out of mana.

Thanks to everyone who actually took the time to read this. It took meh about 3 hours. >.<;
Hopefully it helps though!
Constructive Criticism is accepted like I said.
