With the 30% speed talent for killin stuff and the 10% from minor speed on boots, do you bother with SL gems? (pure F2P only, so no healing gem to consider)

You can make the SL gem with only 1 SL jewelcrafting, so there's no real reason to not have it. You only need around 50 SL ore to get enough +1 gems to max out speed. (400-500 ore if you want to shoot for +2 gems)

Base 160% movement speed is a world apart from 110%.

Personally, I bother myself a lot with the speed gem. That said, I also habitually overstack speed buffs, so I have a problem.

I really miss in DF when the gems were +3% and +5% move speed. They got nerfed into complete uselessness.

At 10-11, you only need the move gem and 5 others (ideally healing but not on F2P). That's not much for +50% movement.

I only need exactly 25% movement speed. Whether through enchants or gems, maximizing damage is the priority.
When facing high-intensity enemies that need to be taken down quickly, I find those extra movement speed stats feel like a burden.

With the 49% move speed from gems I am still able to kill most packs without stopping so I see no reason to ever consider giving any of it up. Anything less feels like I am moving in sludge now after running with 49% for so long.

Tried playing a high level char the other day without speed and can confirm, it still sucks.

Yeah max level takes more buttons to do less, and feels like walking vs running. Best thing max is good for is grabbing tmogs, etc.
