Is there any way crit can be viable for crit heavy classes? For example could full crit/verse wf gear with heavy crit rings/neck make fire mage viable? Can the crit at 20 pass the threshold at which fire mage can be any good?

Depends on your spells/talents and if you can reach the level of Critical Strike w/o sacrifice the main level 20 preferences.

Fire Mage has a few perks with critical strike and missing a critical strike (Pyrotechnics but if a critical is achieved then cancels it).
Fire Blast under Fire spec always meets a critical strike. Firestarter enables deals a critical strike with Fireball/Pyroblast if target above 90%).

Yea but for pvp i dont think firestarter is any good because once you get one crit off then the passive seizes to work.I prefer the scorch crit talent.

Searing Touch is like Firestarter in reverse; requires the target to be under 30% to proc. I concur that Scorch allows for movement, in PvP (which wasn't mentioned in the OP).

It seems that Spellpower is more key for damage output in this case unless adding a BFA enchant to weapon proc and keeping a under ilvl 60 Legion necklace enchant to add to the damage.
