Class Changes:
WARLOCK
This major change regarding Soul Shards was previously announced at BlizzCon 2009. Soul Shards will no longer be inventory items, but instead a new UI resource mechanic. Warlocks will have 3 Soul Shards that can be used during a fight and will not be able to gain additional shards during combat. Soul Shards will not be required outside of combat. Soul Burn will consume a Soul Shard resource, thereby allowing you to use the secondary effects of some spells. Soul Burn has no mana or health costs and is off the global cooldown. Planned secondary effects are outlined here.
Next you will find a list of some of the warlock spell and talent changes for the release of Cataclysm. There will be further changes, but those revealed below should offer some insight into our goals.
All warlock damage-over-time (DoT) spells will benefit from crit and haste innately. Haste will no longer act to reduce the DoT's duration, but rather to add additional ticks. When reapplying a DoT, you can no longer "clip" the final tick. Instead, this will just add duration to the spell, similar to how Everlasting Affliction currently works.
Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom will be converted into Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom. Bane spells are considered magic instead of curses. This means you will be able to cast one Bane (e.g. Bane of Agony) and one Curse (e.g. Curse of Elements) on a single target.
Imps will lose Fire Shield, but will gain a new ability, Burning Ember, which is a stacking DoT.
Voidwalker Torment will do increased damage and generate a lot of area-of-effect (AoE) threat. Suffering will become a single-target taunt.

- Summon Demon + Soul Burn = summon the demon instantly.
- Drain Life + Soul Burn = Reduces cast speed by 60%.
- Demonic Circle + Soul Burn = Increases movement speed by 50% for 8 seconds after teleporting.
- Unstable Affliction + Soul Burn = Instantly deals damage equal to 30% of its effect.
- Soul Fire + Soul Burn = Instant cast.
- Healthstone + Soul Burn = Increases total health by 20% for 8 seconds.
- Searing Pain + Soul Burn = Increases the crit chance of Searing Pain by 100%, and subsequent Searing Pain spells by 50% for 6 seconds.

Level 18: Rain of Fire
Calls down a fiery rain to burn enemies in the area of effect for 240 Fire damage over 8 sec. 57% of base mana, 30 yd range, Channeled
Level 18: Searing Pain
Inflict searing pain on the enemy target, causing 34 to 42 Fire damage. Causes a high amount of threat. ( Soulburn : Increases the critical effect chance of your next Searing Pain by 100%, and your subsequent Searing Pain casts by 50% for 50 sec. ) 8% of base mana, 30 yd range, 1.5 sec cast
Level 16: Unending Breath
Allows the target to breathe underwater for 10 min ( Glyph of Unending Breath : and increases swim speed by 20% ). 2% of base mana, 30 yd range, Instant cast
Level 16: Curse of Weakness
Target's physical damage done is reduced by 10% for 2 min. Only one Curse per Warlock can be active on any one target. 10% of base mana, 30 yd range, Instant cast
Level 14: Fear
Strikes fear in the enemy, causing it to run in fear for up to 20 sec. Damage caused may interrupt the effect. Only 1 target can be feared at a time. 12% of base mana, 20 yd range, 1.5 sec cast
Level 12: Health Funnel
Gives 12 health to the caster's pet every second for 10 sec as long as the caster channels. 45 yd range, Channeled
Level 12: Bane of Agony
Curses the target with agony, causing 84 Shadow damage over 24 sec. This damage is dealt slowly at first, and builds up as the Curse reaches its full duration. Only one Bane per Warlock can be active on any one target. 10% of base mana, 30 yd range, Instant cast
Level 12: Soul Harvest
You seek out nearby wandering souls, gaining 1 soul shard and regenerate 5% of your health every 3 sec for 9 sec. Cannot be cast when in combat. Channeled, 30 sec cooldown
Level 10: Drain Soul
rains the soul of the target, causing 55 Shadow damage over 15 sec. If the target is at or below 25% health, Drain Soul causes four times the normal damage. If the target dies while being drained, and yields experience or honor, the caster gains 3 Soul Shards. Soul Shards are required for other spells. 14% of base mana, 30 yd range, Channeled
Level 10: Soulburn
Consumes a Soul Shard, allowing you to use the secondary effects on some of your spells. Lasts for 10 sec. 1 Mana, Instant cast, 30 sec cooldown
Level 10: Summon Voidwalker
Summons a Voidwalker under the command of the Warlock.

Level 9: Create Healthstone
Creates a Healthstone that can be used to instantly restore health equal to 60% of the creator's base health. Conjured items disappear if logged out for more than 15 minutes. 53% of base mana, 3 sec cast
Level 8: Demon Armor
Protects the caster, increasing armor by 90, and increasing the amount of health generated through spells and effects by 20%. Only one type of Armor spell can be active on the Warlock at any time. Lasts 30 min. 31% of base mana, Instant cast
Level 6: Drain Life
Transfers 10 health every 1 sec from the target to the caster. Lasts 5 sec.
( Soulburn : Cast time reduced by 60%. ) 17% of base mana, 30 yd range, Channeled
Level 5: Life Tap
Converts 0 health into [ ( 50% of Spell Power + 0 ) * ( Improved Life Tap : 100%/110%/120%) ] mana. Spell power increases the amount of mana returned. Instant
Level 4: Corruption
Corrupts the target, causing 60 Shadow damage over 18 sec. 6% of base mana, 30 yd range, Instant cast
Level 3: Immolate
Burns the enemy for 8 Fire damage and then an additional 20 Fire damage over 15 sec. 8% of base mana, 30 yd range, 2 sec cast
Level 1: Summon Imp
Summons an Imp under the command of the Warlock. ( Soulburn : Instant cast. ) 64% of base mana, 10 sec cast
Level 1: Shadow Bolt
Sends a shadowy bolt at the enemy, causing 12 to 16 Shadow damage. 10% of base mana, 30 yd range, 1.7 sec cast
