lol lol is awesome but not awesome enough for me. If i was to go DOTA style, i would much rather go sc2 or DOTA 2 for the lolz. Dota 2 takes more skillz btw :3

This is a pretty ignorant thing to say...

I have played Dota since Dota Classic (before Frozen Throne) for about 2 years, and played Dota Allstars for about 2-3 years, and played Dota 2 beta for a few months now.

And I've also played League of Legends for close to 2 years.

They are completely different games of the same genre. Lots of people tend to say "Dota 2 takes more skill" but both games require different kinds of skills/dexterity. The skills I developed in playing a good 5 years of Dota did not make me a "pro" player in League of Legends, and I imagine the same situation vice versa.

To be honest, the only difference between the two games are that deaths in LoL are more forgiving than in dota.
LoL encourages more team fights and diving where dota I can kick back and just farm

You are really overgeneralising the differences between these two games.... because you are making LoL sound like a -em/easy mode DotA (less penalty for deaths, more emphasis on hero fights rather than passive farm?), when it is blatantly anything but.

The differences in the games are so great that even the "best" dota players cannot transition over to LoL and do as well, and the "best" LoL players cannot pick-up Dota and hope to maintain that level of competition.

To say "deaths in LoL are more forgiving than in dota" is only true in certain skill brackets of the game, and vice versa in others, but they are not exclusive either.

i've played both games too, and i'm now reasonably good at LoL after starting to play earlier this year (all games like this have a learning curve that can only be gotten over by practice and repetition). i am also a very good dota player (a lot better than i am at LoL), having played it for years and years.

it sounds trite, but league of legends really is just an easy version of dota. and it's not necessarily a bad thing at all. LoL takes a lot of the bad things of dota out and adds a lot of streamlined, genuinely fun features that make the game more enjoyable. more FUN!

a lot of the things that make dota have an extremely high skill cap are just silly idiosyncrasies that only even exist because of the limitations of the warcraft 3 game engine. is it really worth it to make a game "harder" just for the sake of being "harder"? i'm not at all convinced.

i haven't played dota since starting to play LoL, since all my friends play LoL, but i have a dota 2 beta key too. and i'd have to disagree with the assessment that being good at dota doesn't mean that you're going to necessarily be good at LoL. my experience with dota has made me a waaayyy better player already than almost all of my friends who have played LoL practically since release. the games are very similar and require the same skills - particularly mastering last hitting. i'd be pretty shocked if a genuinely good dota player was somehow unable to transition over to league of legends and reach the same skill level within a reasonable amount of time.

edit: seriously, last hitting is so much easier in LoL it's really just comical. no denies?! projectile speed/animation ridiculously smooth and fast for every single hero? the fact that there are players in LoL who can't get 90%+ of last hits when left by themselves, after playing for years(!), seriously just blooooowwws my mind. they're undoubtedly the same people who are still keyboard turning in WoW after playing the game for 5 years!

ignorant? lol why is that ignorant...
its not like im saying LoL is easy and Dota 2 is for pros
if i call a huntard takes more skills than a mage, is that ignorant? its true that hunter has higher skill cap but mage has to deal with sheep so it is harder to CC. They are both hard in different categories but still hunter has higher skill cap. Just like that, Dota 2 is overall harder to play than LoL.
when you said

that is completely off topic from what i said. They are slightly different yes, i never said they are same. Difference in difficulty of a game doesnt equal to those two games being the same game..

Core of this 2 games are the same, but nuances are different - gearing, farming, playstyle and end game play.
One thing in LoL that I didn't like is no creep denying, maybe they did that, so ppl focus more on dueling other team and not on counter farming. Well I didnt play DotA 2, maybe alot has changed there.

P.S.
Bah I'm not on NA server. Maybe need to make another account there. ~_~

i played 5 years of dota and fukin sucked at it but didn't do too badly in LoL despite not really knowing what i was doing

just have to learn the metagame and all the champs abilities

also there is definitely "denying" in LoL, more accurately, harassing. most players (like me) dont know how to last hit in response to well timed/positioned harassing

also if you knew Mommamia he plays LoL too

yeah, unlike in dota, for some unknown reason there is no limit to the amount of wards you can buy in LoL. and yet....still, except at high levels of play, people don't buy wards and put them everywhere. it's pretty amazing. the map is so small compared to dota, too.

Just curious what roles do you usually play?

usually solo mid in both dota and LoL. it's the strongest position in pubs and thus the easiest way to carry a game and ensure victory
