Building a new guide for new twinks. (Seeking Input)

As the title says, I'm looking for input on my new guide. Any ideas or things I may have left out. All constructive input is welcome. Looking for some of the finer points of twinking that someone just starting out doesn't have the luxury of knowing about. Any subject that can help this type of player is welcome. So please feel free to talk about any aspect of twinking that you feel may be relevant.

Please understand I know it is not finished and that is exactly why I am seeking help and advice on what I may be missing out on.

Note: This is not an all encompassing guide. With links to gear and class guides in it, I am only attempting to guide new players to the proper information. In essence putting the tools in their hands to enable them to help themselves, while opening their eyes to the nuances of the 19 bracket.

So you wanna be a twink in the WSG?

I would add in the Engineering section the Explosive Sheep and how it is sometimes able to hit nearby stealthed rogues. (good to have out when you fc)

In the first aid area I would add that damage will break your heal.

so far looks like a good start to a great guide.

I was thinking of covering first aid during fights or with dots in the combat section.

I've been using sheep for a long time, I consider them to be more of a novelty. They can be a little buggy at times. Used before combat they tend not to work some times.

edit: (reconsidering situational use of sheep vs unpredictable players.)

Please don't ask the community for general twinking information as if you twinked enough you would already know everything from reading other peoples guides, strats, etc. Just my 2 cents anyways.

Asking people for input means helping me compile a complete list. If I forget to add a subject, this is a way for others to help me so I can put it in the guide. Your constructive post is exactly why I put a disclaimer at the top of the guide. You clearly did not read this, which means you did not read other helpful guidelines on how to post relating to this guide. So, what have we learned today class? ( I really don't think I can make this any clearer to this child. )

This is why I made it for people with out any idea about twinking. Not those that have already twinked for some time. Did you bother to read any of it or just the big words? I describe who it's created for in the first paragraph.

I have yet to see a guide describing the benefits of professions in comparison to each other for twinks. Nor have I seen a guide describing the minutia of combat. Or the application of combat tactics in the battlegrounds. Or the general, all around knowledge base that I am presenting in 1 clean package. But please, feel free to point out a guide describing the use and tactics Engineering brings to the fight or descriptive First Aid techniques so that anyone, even someone who does not play WoW, can understand what is being discussed.

Did you take your 2 cents from the need/leave plate? Doesn't sound like you started with any to begin with.

Feels like you should focus more on the group aspect of twinking; talk about 2's, 3's, 5's and premades more!

Certainly planing to cover the subject's of working as a team with other twinks in wsg. I'm uncertain as to how to introduce arena teams and that environment, as I don't wish to ignore any aspect of twinking at 19. There are so many ways to enjoy pvp at 19, I believe all of them should be introduced in this guide.

Any tips or write-ins on any subject would be more than welcome. I am certainly not an expert on all subjects of 19 twinks. (full credit will be given to any authors that wish to help fill in subjects or aspects that I have either passed over or forgotten.)

Survival Tactics

Triage- Who do i heal? who has priority?

After you play a bracket for a while, you get to know generally what a twink looks like by the gear/weapons they wear. These people have priority(if i have group leader i put raid marks on them and a Moon on myself.) Getting a unit frame addon will also help you in assesing where you need to be and who around you needs a big heal NOW, or who can take a shield and be addressed later.

As a priest, i generally throw a shield or a renew on non-twinks as i see fit. Some may say this is a waste of mana, but the bubble you provide makes these guys feel protected. In heated situations where they might run and not attack, they may feel emboldened because a twink is healing them, and consequently they will fight harder and generally be more useful.

Survival- Knowing your supporting role

As a class that can heal, you want to put yourself in a position where your heals are most effective. Imagine for a moment a huge circle drawn around your character with a 35 yard radius, that its your domain. Everything that steps inside should be under your eye.

(If you feel that you cant see enough of the feild, try this macro:

/console cameraDistanceMax 25

/console cameraDistanceMaxFactor 2

Fully zoomed out your character will be less than half an inch big, but you'll be able to see alot more.)

Be aware of your fc. When you see the flag get picked up, move to support him. Save your snares and interupts to peel of any chasers on said FC. As you can see, positioning is the name of the game for a healer at low levels. Planning ahead and moving with a group, constantly reassessing where your presence is most valuable, thats your role.

Remember:

1. there is strength in numbers. Running off willy-nilly by yourself does you and your team no good.

2. If you have a wand, USE IT. That thing packs a punch. If your group is stable, whip that sucker out and put the fear of god in some people! If you're someone like a shammy, earthshock something! silences hurt! If you're a palli, Judge something!

>>Also, just incase some people do not know already, THE ROCKS IN MIDFEILD WSG DO NOT BREAK LOS. So this means you can cast heals and shoot targets with your wand through them even though you cant technicly see your target. Its also helpful to know that you can kite melee around these obstacles and still keep in contact with your group with instant cast heals and such.

>>>Sorry if this is a bit rough, i just typed it freehand and did some quick editing :)

No, no, looks good. maxcam 50/4 has worked well for me, I'll change that. But most everything else looks spot on. If you think of anything else about those subjects please feel free to edit. I'm not quite to this part just yet, just wanted to invite some opinions and views on the subject so I can get a better understanding of how to frame it. (Further ideas and comments on the subject are still very much welcome from anyone.)

I've done pve healing, I know it's not the same. So my basic understanding and any revisions/editing won't be completely ignorant.

also: Any particular addons to help pvp healing that anyone can suggest would be awesome.

healinc i think its called

when you start casting (its for cast heals only) it shows your targets health, and it shows how much your heal will heal the target for, laid out in a bar near your cast bar.

I like it for my 80 healing :D

It's worthy to note that in PuGs it CAN be useful at times to "run willy-nilly" - just as long as by 'willy' you mean 'taunting at least 4 opponents into following you' and by 'nilly' you mean 'away from any sort of useful place at all.'

This might be labeled as an 'advanced' concept, but at the same time you could file it in the 'what the hell are you thinking?' category too:

If you are in a PuG with one or two other twinks that you trust, it actually can be very beneficial to the team if you act as a bait. Being a priest, especially wearing a juicy Fishing Hat, paints a rather large target on you, and in PuGs you can bet that people will chase after you. To a certain extent, that's the right plan of action for them, but they should realize to fall back once you start running to a remote corner of the map. Fortunately, the PuG-mind is a strange place; they will hunt you down. They will probably kill you. But while you are drawing half their team away to the farside of your favorite Tree, be proud to know that you have now effectively made the game 9 vs 5.

This tactic can actually be very useful as a learning tool, as well. Knowing how to kite people, stay in distance, and how to be annoying as possible are all key skills for any rising priest.

(Note: this works especially well if you're low on health. ;))

~this works for paladins, druids and, to an extent, mages and shamans as well.

(for-fun article, but use it if you want it - I actually do this on average more than once per BG.)

may include some of this in the baiting section. It's in movement but I may move it under combat tactics.

oh, good show! I didn't notice you had a 'baiting section.' nice :)
