Bonus Armor

Does bonus armor not affect all classes? I just noticed that I'm wearing the boots but do not have any bonus armor reported under Enhancements.

Interesting. I remember Willix's praising Bonus Armor for Spriest. Was he incorrect or was this changed or are they an exception?

Pretty sure I wasn't praising it so much as commenting on it, and I think it was in response to someone else praising it. I think it's a pointless stat on anything but a tank (even then, pointless below level 90).

Spriests get bonus armor in their enhancements, unsure of how it works though.

I don't want to go digging, and it might have been in skype. But you're wrong and a liar
I remember the conversation you are thinking of and it was not Willix praising bonus armor. It was the guy who created the 29 shadow priest guide who's name I can't remember name.

I was suggesting that Ghamoo-Ra waist at 9/9 should be BiS if you are wanting to stack Int and Stam, and he told me I was wrong (more or less) because of how good Bonus Armor was for a shadow priest.

I need to stop blindly taking people's word for things on here. I switched to the AB belt and noticed the BA never actually shows up in the stats and assumed it was just hidden or something. More likely story is that Priests don't get BA at all anymore.

Yep, no spec other than tanks ever have gotten benefit from the bonus armor stat, and i remember that conversation as well.

I have to imagine that all classes got the armor value from it at some point since it's itemized on cloth and whatnot.

According to Wiki:

Warlords-Logo-Small Patch 6.0.2 (October 14, 2014): Now a tank-only stat.
Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): Bonus armor beyond the base armor of an item will no longer be multiplied by any talents or by the bonuses of Bear Form, Dire Bear Form, or Frost Presence.

So it's a very recent change that it's a dead stat for non-tanks, but it hasn't been involved in spriest double armor calculations for a long long time.

That was me.

Bonus armor works on shadow priests and is doubled from shadowform unless the tooltip is wrong.

You go from 9.9% damage reduction to 31% as a 29 shadow priest with bonus bonus armor pieces.

I'm willing to test this if anyone has a 29 alliance twink. Its entirely possible the tooltip is wrong although I did notice I was able to handle rogues/warriors/monks better with the bonus armory pieces.

Data

Auto attacks from a level 85 mage.

No Shadow Form: 180, 219, 211, 179, 188, 184, 224, 214. 215, 224
Mean: 203.8

Shadow Form: 208, 147, 177, 143, 152, 148, 208, 149, 203, 211
Mean: 174.6

No Shadow Form No Bonus Armor: 199, 218, 178, 167, 225, 222, 180, 208, 203, 207
Mean 200.7

Shadow Form No Bonus Armor 167, 167, 172, 230, 173, 213, 228, 181, 221, 211
Mean 176.3

Results

I tested the theory - Looks like I was wrong Bonus armor doesn't work with Shadow Priests despite the tool tip.

Shadow Form vs. No Shadow Form with armor on scored .010 with a Ttest indicating significance.

Shadow Form vs. Shadow Form/No Armor scored a .943 indicating almost no significance.

Conclusion

Mages have a shitty auto attack

The tool tips on the shadowpriest that I have indicate the bonus armor is indeed working.
FYI, armor only mitigates damage from physical attacks.
