well it seems to me that the speed of the rin'ji axe would be perfect for the prot talent reckoning ?

Coude u trie link them on forum as i cant find them ingame atm=S

Viking Warhammer almost equal to Rinji > Thrash.

warhammer gives sta and strength (AP, block value)

rinji gives the same sta & agil (crit, dodge and armor) so they're almost equal, just have to decide what stats you want more.

thrash blade has no stats and a pretty lackluster proc. so i dont use it

Don't underestimate the proc on [item]Thrash Blade[/item]. I'm assuming you're talking about a prot paladin and I can tell you thrash was awesome for me. Your seal, judgment, and enchant procs are all better with thrash blade anyway.

again thrash blade is lackluster at best&here is why:

lower dps than warhammer, even w/o factoring in the strength.

110hp is nothing to sneeze at when you're a dedicated FC.

thrash blade is too slow to optimize reckoning; if people even take that nowadays (i had it for leveling, then dropped it for better pts when i started being just a FC)

being a prot pally isnt about being offensive, its the weakest class/spec to go fight compared to a prot warrior or feral druid, or any crazy class that wants to run the flag (mage, lock, etc). if you have to depend on a ~1-2 proc rate and slightly* higher damage (w/o factoring in strength from warhammer) then something is wrong. get viking warhammer to increase hp and block, awesome defensive stats. or go rinji and have a nice fast weapon for reck with the same hp, and nice agility to help with avoidance/mitigation (dodge, crit&armor).

[item]Thrash Blade[/item] provides more dps against casters. Also, the weapon speed is largely irrelevant since the weapon swings you get deal more damage individually. Your chance on hit procs also normalize to weapon speed regardless of the extra swing possibility. You'll also find thrash blade more powerful against casters, when fighting whom you often don't have the reckoning buff. And even with the Reckoning buff, since it triggers off of taking rather than landing a hit, you can still often get 3 extra swings in. And while the extra swings can't trigger thrash blade, your white swing can use a reckoning swing and proc thrash blade at the same time, making a triple-hit.

The reason thrash blade is often overlooked is because many players overlook the possibility of adding a new proc or ability when considering other items with juicy stats. The fact is that the rest of your gear gives good stats, but where else will you get something like the thrash proc? A little strength and stamina will rarely make the difference, but an extra weapon swing easily can.

If you plan to go offensive with your prot pally, thrash blade is what I found to be the best. If you're just flagrunning, [item]Viking Warhammer[/item] will be best as was already mentioned. Offensive prot pallys are fun but I understand the reasons to focus on the FC role instead.

I like crusader just because you beg the proc so much with Reckoning and Thrash, but I haven't tested them side by side. I expect crusader to be better but I'm not sure =/

crusader or 20 strength. just have to decide if u want constant 20 strength, or rely on a proc (hmm, waiting for crusader and thrash to proc =P) for 100 strength and a small heal.

you can tell im a lil unfriendly towards procs, its just that i dont like having to rely on a proc to do more damage, id rather pack my ole viking warhammer and go to work runnin flags.

which is another thing, dont be suprised if u lose a lot as an offensive prot pally. i havent played my pally as prot since b4 3.1 so idk if any major changes have been made...but its no where near as strong offensively as a prot warrior or feral druid. melee arent too bad with all the damage reflecting and blocking, but casters will be a thorn in the side. all in all i just like running on my pally. massive hp and armor, good other defensive stats, self cleanse&heals, BoF..i mean they are just perfectly tuned to running flags in wsg!

They are insanely good flag runners. Even if you have a dps-focused build, you're still going to run a lot of flags. You'll just find Arathi Basin a lot more fun. I don't know how many times I held my ground 1v3 or even 1v4 at the mine until more horde showed up, often killing one or two of them before that help arrived to sweep away the rest. Offensive prot pallys don't kill that quickly but they are the closest thing there is in the 49 bracket to the unmovable object. The reason I switched to ret was to earn more honor lol. It's no question that an offensive ret will make a better difference than an offensive prot, but twinking is about customizing your character to your preferred playstyle, not just rolling whatever's best.

sure if you have the cash for it lol. i havent even gotten my main dual spec (not that i need to, i play moonkin&moonkin only..i have no thoughts of going resto. possibly to tank but i dont even have a good enough tank/cat set yet)

the only 49 i would give dual spec is probably my druid. i switch between resto and balance a fair bit. my warrior, pally, rogue, and shaman however generally stay the same spec for months at a time and i havent the slightest inkling to drop 1k on any of those fools.

now as for a prot pally being offensive, that depends. against melee they can hold their own until help arrives...but post 3.1 i can see a good rogue or warrior killing them quite quickly, possibly even an enh shammy with lucky crits. a caster is even better since prots cant really do squat other than bubble against that. when im prot on my pally i have one mind set : CTF! i dont bother trying to do 1v1s or anything, sure i could outlast my fair share, at least pre3.1, but i'd rather not try. i'd much rather be holy or ret and just grind them into the dirt =P

at the end of the day its about what playstyle you want/prefer. so if you wanna dabble in being "offensive prot" go for it, skys the limit man! but just know there are ways to be a more effective FC should you want it.
