Attack Power...?

Chase

Legend
WowWiki states that, "Attack power (AP) increases your base DPS by 1 for every 14 attack power." Speaking as a warrior, this means that 7 Strength nets 1 DPS... I realize that at level 85, this works, but for this level...? To me, it makes strength seem like a secondary stat, unless I'm missing something.

Thoughts?

1 str=2 AP for the classes that should be using primarily using it, and 1 str= 1 AP for agility classes. you could have easily tested this yourself, but that's what this forum is for.

OP isn't asking how attack power is gained, but how it affects the dps of a class such as warrior/paladin where strength is the main source of attack power, so is it necessary to stack large amounts of strength? since according to what i gathered from his post it seems that he is questioning whether stacking a minimum amount of strength and focusing on a separate stat such as stamina while keeping a minimum amount of strength would provide similar dps to someone that has stacked strength over all other stats.

For dps spec you need to stack strength more than stam. For protection spec you have to stack stam more than strength.

you guys need to read better :) What he is asking is since it states that it takes so much str to gain 1 dps, wouldnt stats be better managed by being placed on other things?

As for that idea... the reason its good to stack str is because it says dps, not damage. This means if you're using Bloodied Arcanite Reaper, 7 str will give you almost 4 more weapon damage, because 1 damage / second on a 3.8 second swing time is 3.8 damage, nearly 4. So, your seven strength increased weapon damage by 4, meaning your white hits will be 2-4 points stronger per 7 str (depending on enemy armor) and crits will be 4-7. If you're a paladin where a 3pnt TV is 300% weapon damage, you're looking at crits being a good 25 more damage. Not too shabby.

did some testing on my warrior, the calculation was a little off. Its ~10 attack power for 1dps at 20. So 5 str or agi for the associated classes.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.
