Armory Player vs. Player statistics for twinks

We have started a new project that provides a view in to the armory provided "Player vs. Player" statistics for twinks.

This seems like it might be of interest to a variety of folks so we are posting about it here. There is already a thread about it on the NightFall forums: World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> @ Fanyun - Data/Analysis for 39s?

This automated system takes as input a bunch of of armory URLs for the guilds and characters that are part of the 39 twink community. The folks on the NightFall forums provided a fairly long list of guilds that contained 39 twinks and the system went through those guilds and pulled out the level 39 characters.

For each class they have a list of the top players in each of these categories:

WSG Victories

WSG Battles

WSG Win %

WSG Flag Captures

WSG Flag Returns

WSG Average Caps+Returns per game

Here is an example from the 39 priests:

Warsong Gulch victories

1491 Fanyun-Doomhammer

1059 Norfire-Undermine

696 Supremebeing-Gnomeregan

650 Useabandage-Lethon

581 Chicaboneta-Jaedenar

505 Survive-Doomhammer

501 Hulucakes-Gnomeregan

486 Dolfgren-Gnomeregan

464 Sób-Doomhammer

426 Lunarsoul-Jaedenar

Win Percentage in WSG

81 Norfire-Undermine, Bosium-Undermine

80 Lushrush-Lethon, Useabandage-Lethon

79 Hurr-Gnomeregan

78 Fanyun-Doomhammer

77 Riddle-Jaedenar

75 Survive-Doomhammer, Supremebeing-Gnomeregan, Razzik-Gnomeregan

73 Tkø-Lethon

72 Navina-Jaedenar, Christanavio-Blackwing Lair

71 Lunarsoul-Jaedenar, Cilx-Gnomeregan, Málediction-Gnomeregan

70 Niiki-Blackwing Lair, Hulucakes-Gnomeregan

Full Disclosure: I'm helping write and host this thing.

just another epeen measuring tool. we've been over this in the 49 forum since a certain rogue, who doesnt even play xp-off bgs, judges everyone off their stats. honestly they dont tell much about the player or his skills. the wins and win/loss ration dont determine skill. in fact a super high ratio more likely than not means bad opposite faction, or always premading vs pugs. flag caps / return ratios are good but its more of a "who can click fastest" stat or which class is best for FCing. it might correlate with skilled players, but it doesnt show causation, meaning a player at the top of all the stats can still suck, and a player at the bottom may be exceptionally skilled; they dont show the whole picture (especially for a stat like win percentage....doesnt tell whether or not they solo que, grp que, premade, and what the opposition is doing or what the horde:alliance ratio on their bg is).

cheers

It certainlys sounds like yall might have had a bad experience with a player in the 49s.

Stats are just stats. As we all know 71% of stats are made up on the spot. 17% of people know this. :)

The point of doing this automation is just to learn a bit about the community as a whole not just to rank individuals.

This helps us to answer questions that people ask like "what's the most popular class" "what should I roll?", which guilds are active?

This came about because one of the community leaders in the 39s (for almost 5 years now) got in the habit of posting these sorts of lists along with a little commentary.

Here's an example of the kind of thing they would post:

World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Top Druids

While this wont tell us whos the best priest etc, you could find what class does best in what you like in wsg. I'm not saying "Priest is the best class at doing xxx cus this or that player has the highest score in it" But if you summarize the whole bracket you'd get an indication on eg. "Priests are good at doing xxx cus they have over all a higher percentage in doing xxx in comparison to another class"

Yet another useless epeen tool, with no actual indication of player skill.

There is no metric for player skill. This doesn't even try to address that. There is no column for "best" or "most skilled". It's just the facts. :)

To address concerns about people AFK'ing out or simply not having many battles the calculated statistics of "WSG Win Percentage" and "Average Caps+Returns per WSG" are only calculated if the player has at least 250 WSG battles. This is obviously something that can be easily tuned. We could put that up to 500 or 1000 if we only wanted to look at characters that had played in a large number of battles.

No metric is perfect but some metrics are better than no metrics.

This tool also affords us a look at the numbers of characters of each class, and if run frequently enough it will give us a sense of which characters and guilds are still active.

As someone else pointed out you can also get a sense of which characters in a particular bracket tend to do more flag caps and flag returns:

This is a summation of the average flag carry+cap/WSG scores of the top 3 (just to pick a number out of the air) characters of each class. Just how accurate is such data? not sure but it certainly seems to mirror the experience of some of those in the bracket. This could well be skewed simply by having a large number of paladins in the sample, or other factors but it is at a minimum interesting data:

Paladins: 6.58

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

2.43 Hargrove-Gnomeregan

2.12 Typîcal-Gnomeregan

2.03 Snickars-Doomhammer

Druids: 5.91

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

2.07 Prowls-Sentinels

2.02 Sprints-Kel'Thuzad

1.82 Bearforceone-Lethon

Mages: 5.59

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

2.09 Soopahmanjr-Lethon

1.81 Terrapine-Jaedenar

1.69 Eløne-Jaedenar

Rogues: 5.56

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

1.88 Distrbed-Gnomeregan

1.84 Hsh-Undermine

1.84 Wharfrat-Blackwing Lair

Hunters: 5.42

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

1.92 Hailshot-Undermine

1.80 Vrishka-Jaedenar

1.70 Zetza-Gnomeregan

Warrior: 4.96

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

1.72 Twoshotu-Gnomeregan

1.64 Itsameemario-Doomhammer

1.60 Söd-Jaedenar

Warlock: 4.23

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

1.83 Bandix-Doomhammer

1.24 Voren-Gnomeregan

1.16 Missdot-Uldaman

Shamen: 3.82

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

1.29 Bromrotama-Lethon

1.28 Twíx-Doomhammer

1.25 Blítzkríeg-Undermine

Priests: 3.38

Average Number of Flag Captures and Returns per WSG

1.29 Huargo-Lethon

1.08 Fanyun-Doomhammer

1.01 Rawbery-Lethon

very interesting! Would be cool if you could some how extrapolate data for the guilds from all the players in them (level 39 only)

That particular set of data came from fetching all the level 39 characters in this set of Guild URLs:

The World of Warcraft Armory - Pro @ Jaedenar - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Chaos Theory @ Deathwing - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Red Text @ Jaedenar - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Not Now Chief @ Doomhammer - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Bank of Azeroth @ Sentinels - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Soulstone @ Jaedenar - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - One and Done @ Doomhammer - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - WWD @ Blackwing Lair - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Gnomeregan Outriders @ Gnomeregan - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Werewolf Orgasmahowl @ Undermine - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - District Thirtynine @ Kel'Thuzad - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Pulse @ Lethon - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Battle Standard @ Jaedenar - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Eternal Sun @ Undermine - Guild Roster

The World of Warcraft Armory - Teh Rep City @ Gnomeregan - Guild Roster

http://www.wowarmory.com/guild-info.xml?r=Lethon&gn=Why+Did+We+Pay+For+This

The World of Warcraft Armory - Protect The Lumber @ Doomhammer - Guild Roster

Are you saying you'd like to see the numbers for something like the (average cap+return per WSG ) for each guild? as opposed to for each character (which is what we have now)
