Arcane Mage and/or Ele shaman raiding rotation?

Legend
Hey guys, been looking around the interwebs but haven't been able to find any solid theorycrafting on the best lvl 70 raiding Arcane Mage or Elemental shaman rotation.

Anyone know somewhere I look or the rotation itself? We are starting progression into 25's and a few members need to know their rotations.

Thanks,

Onehitwondr

make a macro for trinkets+ap and use it in the right time (hero or so).

don't know about ele, shamans are to hard for me!

elitist jerks forums should cover all questions for all classes/specs. just ignore mastery/reforging tips and use the best 2 glyphs for prime/major/minor and plan your spec according to how many talent points you have available

arcane is actually a bit complicated and doesnt have a set rotation afaik (like feral dps)...basically there are at least 2 phases and you cycle between them to max your dps. check out Cataclysm Arcane Mage Compendium - Elitist Jerks for more in depth info. ele has a pretty set rotation from what i can tell, so just send your eles to the shaman forums and click on the ele subforum

the skillcap of a pve arcane mage is really high..

if 70 is anything like how they describe the "rotation" / phases for 85, it sounds a bit more difficult than pure AB spamming

Ele , LB = lightning bolt ,Lvb = lava burst , Fs= flame shock , Es=earth shock, Cl = chain lightning .

Back in wotlk when i did high end raids my rotation was this

LB,LB,LB,Fs,Lvb,Cl,LB,LB,LB,LB,LB,Es,LB,LB,LB,Fs,Lvb,CL,LB,LB,LB,LB,LB,Es and repeat.

made me have top damage

an ele sham getting top damage, loooooooooool

anyways, from EJ:

"In short, we don't really have one anymore. Instead, we cast with a spell priority list.

Fire totem down -> Flame Shock DoT present -> Lava Burst (whenever it's up) -> Earth Shock (7-9 Lightning Shield charges) -> Lightning Bolt filler"

and for stats:

"Spirit/Hit (until capped) >> Intellect > Haste = Mastery >> Crit"

my guess being ignore mastery and the rest stays the same...but i suppose haste/crit could change depending on how much of either you have

Since I have quite some hands-on experience with 70 raiding post 4.0, I feel confident that the following information holds true.

Arcane Mage:

If you have good enough gear (see thread in my sig for BiS list), you will be able to spam Arcane Blast from 100 -> 0. It is actually in your raids interest to let you do that, since Arcane Mages edge out any other class if they're able to do that. Giving you all available Innervates is not an unreasonable measure to take, and since healers don't actually have mana problems at 70, this is perfectly possible. The 2-piece T6 bonus (which is part of the BiS list mentioned above) also means Evocation gives you 75% of your mana back. An Arcane Mage with the best available gear at 70 has just short of 23.000 mana raid buffed, and the best thing you can do is get a good feel for your mana pool. Lean which regen abilities to use when, how haste buffs affect your mana consumption and manage your resources in a way that allows you to cast Arcane Blast continuously throughout the fight. While people may look at Recount and see nothing but AB, just to go "LOL, no skill spec", it is quite the contrary. If you have to resort to a conservative phase in order to maintain your mana (which is quite easy, as opposed to what EJ and the people in this thread makes it sound like), you failed at managing your regen. It is not possible to maintain mana and spam Arcane Blast over a long fight at 85, but the gear at 70 makes this feasible - seize this opportunity, and if handled properly, Arcane is the #1 DPS spec at 70.

Elemental Shaman:

Falkor quoted Elitist Jerks advice on the rotation, which sums it up fairly well. When it says "Fire Totem Down", they are talking about Searing, Magma or Fire Elemental Totem. Not only do these contribute to a significant part of your damage, but the Totemic Wrath buff is critical to your raids performance (both on the part of healers and DPS casters). For this reason, unless you are casting a heal that will save a person from dying, you stop whatever you're doing to drop a Fire Totem - every second your raid lacks the buff, you are costing the raid and yourself DPS.

The rest is self explanatory, and while the Elemental Shaman rotation in itself is not complex, it is one with a high skill cap. Not only in terms of reacting to Fulmination stacks and Lava Surge procs, but the delicate art of managing shock cooldowns, which becomes even harder at 70, since we don't use the Flame Shock glyph, and often aren't afforded Reverberation in our builds. To sum it up, everybody can do well with an Elemental Shaman, but a skilled player can take the spec to greater heights.

By the way, the Elemental AoE rotation is the hardest in game, but will be made considerably easier in 4.2. There are different rotations depending on how many targets you fight (2, 3-5 or 5-10) - if you want details on these, please don't hesitate to ask. As for an opener, I asked a Shaman in my mains guild for advice, and he advised the following:

Searing Totem (before fight) -> Flame Shock -> Searing Totem / Fire Elemental -> Elemental Mastery -> Lava Burst -> Lightning Bolt -> Normal Rotation

Small note: Just because you top the damage meters in your guild does not necessarily mean you are doing anything right - it could be that your guild is terrible, that you have great RNG, that everybody but you slacks on raids and doesn't care about meters. As such, when somebody tells you: "You would deal more damage if you bla bla", passing off this advice on the grounds that "I'm always #1 on damage", is a fallacy.

your dps is way more efficient Lightning bolt x3 -> Elem mastery ->Flame shock -> lava burst . without the totems included
