Anyone try NE mage yet?

I am going to move my mage to ally. I think i'm going to try NE for the shadowmeld. It seems like it would be great to be able to jump out of nowhere and nuke someone especially a max spellpower/crit mage. Any thoughts or has anyone tried a NE mage?

I've seen a few NE mages running around every now and then. You don't see many though.

Edit: Shadowmeld wouldn't be so bad, if you're playing arcane and such. On a frost mage with a pet its probably decent at best.

I don't think the pet gets the meld though. oh wait what about Smeld Silence! kinda like stealth>shadowsetp>kick

Why would you smeld before you silence someone?

Same goes for "stealth>shadowsetp>kick".

Yeah, what I mean't was the pet wouldn't get meld. That's why it would be decent at best. Smeld Silence isn't bad just depends if you're being targeted/casted on before you get it off. Such as a paladin going for an exo, you Smeld and he'll probably end up trying to heal himself with in the time.

When I'm on my pally I always check for rogues and mages to determine if I need to fake cast or use instant heals. If my FC is taking heavy damage and there are no good rogues or mages in sight I will keep them up with flash of light or holy light. There is nothing worse than getting spelllocked for 7 seconds out of nowhere. You are right you wouldn't use it that often but against good players it is not a bad idea.

Most of the time it is more useful to just stick on the healer and let him fake cast until the EFC is really low. This forces the healer to stop fake casting which leads to a interupted cast and a dead EFC. I find the the ability to just make a few steps towards the healer to make him stop casting much more powerful than to sit in stealth to land a 4 second silence.

well it's 7 seconds with mages, and I know if I was waiting out in the open I would surely get nuked down by a hunter.

smend is awesome, if you're able to use it correct. i would advise against playing as nelf, if you're mainly going to play frost.

What do you think of +5hit to boots and +2 hit wand? for arcane hit capping?

trying to figure out a better way to do it

Personally, I think the alliance has much better races to offer for the mage class, yet im sure Night Elf would be a fun one to try!

I rarely see any in BGs...

Example from today:

I was waiting at the entrance to the tunnel in smeld. a hunter was escorting his druid FC back to the cap. Because noone showed up on track human the hunter turned back toward offense and I was free to damage the druid as I pleased 1v1 all the way up the tunnel. Unfortunately because our team wasn't communicating the druid was able to cap on me. I was essentially out played on the whole encounter. I could have easily repicked or returned the flag if I had a little more practice on the my mage.

On another encounter I had a mage try to poly me my trinket was down but I was able to Smeld and his cast failed...I am sure he was like WTF? Stille learning some cool tricks cya out there.

Oh snap, super juke :p

Nah but the in-combat stealth is awesome. For anything really.

Well BE isn't far behind in my opinion, you know a silence that recover 6% mana isn't that bad

Well, you have to be in melee range for that silence which is what you are trying to avoid as a mage.

I'm having a lot of fun with NE mage, they are very versatile. I love the arcane barrage>Smeld>arcane barrage combo.

I honestly can't imagine playing many of the classes I do play without Shadowmeld. It really is my favorite racial in the game, hands down.

Though I seldom use it offensively. If anything, it's most effective as a defensive spell. Few things are satisfying as seeing some scrub hunter target me while I'm a lone and he's got some buddies behind him, then pop blink to get slightly out of sight and shadowmeld. Usually gets even the most persistent off my trail, and lets me run past them to get the flag/help the FC.

I typically use shadowmeld as an inturrupt. Someone goes to fear you when CS is on CD, use shadowmeld to break fear cast. Works wonders.
