A serious question about lolThornspike

Before I post anything interesting, I need to first say that I dont actually use Thornspike. Its a pretty horrible weapon, when it comes to 29 rogues.

BUT.

Lets look at [ITEM]Thornspike[/ITEM] and the 29 BiS offhand, [ITEM]Vendetta[/ITEM]. Thornspike gives 8 agi, but has a horrible speed and bad damage. Vendetta provides 6 agi, but is great at applying poisons, etc. However, if you're playing a pure AP rogue, is Thornspike better?

Assuming that all you are going to do is: Ambush->(maybe) Backstab, is it possible that the stats from the Thornspike help you more than the utility of Vendetta? This is assuming that you have a large amount of AP, because everything changes if you need to use any other combo than Ambush->Backstab->Vanish

No, Im not saying Thornspike is good. I was just wondering about this, and thought Id post it here.

If your objective is to burst down your enemy within a few seconds, then yes, Thornspike would be a better choice than Vendetta just because you're nullifying all of the advantages Vendetta gives (faster cast pushback, poison application, etc.)

Obviously a BoA dagger as an OH is the best choice for an AP ambush rogue, but if you don't have access to BoA items the best choice for an OH would be a Cross Dagger of Power (1.3 speed, +12 AP).

edit: If you're a Horde rogue you can use Outlaw Sabre as an OH for +15 AP.

Or just get Cruel Barb ..

Instead of camping the AH for months for that dagger (+12AP)

Yes, Cruel Barb would be the easiest alternative and likely 3rd best choice for an AP rogue.

Isnt it the weapon with the most AP even at 29?

I know that theres other weapons with as much AP but I think 12 is the max?

Actually, Outlaw Sabre has 15 AP. But from an Alliance perspective, yes, 12 AP is the max for a non-BoA weapon at 29.

Thornspike's no good at all , you get better alternative for a pure ap rogue and you get scout's blade better than thorspike if you want that kind of weapon off-hand.

But for a full crit rogue it may be funny :p

Even for a full crit rogue thornspike fails because of Crescent of Forlorn Spirits which comes with 8 crit rating as well as being BC enchantable. Failspike imo.

Vendetta is not good for Pushback anymore since it's 1 pushback per hand. Unless your opponent is casting 3 second spells all the time it's irrelevant what speed the OH is. Vendetta is great for the one reason that it's under the GCD, so even if the poison is dispelled it will be reapplied before the priest can even ATTEMPT to dispel it.
