80 Warlock Theorycrafting/Help/Creation Journey

Hey guys, I have recently returned to the game after not playing for several months. Having extensive twinking experience in lower brackets and making both an 80 Paladin and an 80 Shaman, I'm going to make a 80 Warlock in honor of my first character ever so many years ago. RIP Kulban(level 26 blood elf warlock) of Aerie Peak-US.

First things first, I must decide on race. I'm going to keep him Alliance to start with since this is where I have all my gear and gold, but might transfer or faction change at some point.

I'll bump this thread anytime something interesting comes up while leveling and gearing, but anyone who wants to throw something in go ahead.

Either 4 peice hc or all cata peices with all possible 409's ofc

Profs Herbie is a MUST 95% haste on demand gg and Tailoring. this as affliction its end game sustained dps can go from anywhere between 200k - 600k if you get lucky with all windsong procs + lightweave + herby + trinkets.

Troll is going to be the best race 115% Haste on demand is pretty awesome, but Orc in t8 <3

How are demo warlocks? Are warlocks good at soloing raids/raid bosses? Are the scaling for 85 better than for 80? I'm mainly interested in soloing some raids/raid bosses. Or should I just go for a tank instead in that case?

85 as affliction loss to a 80 affilction mega hard in like ICC a 80 can do 200k- 600k dps and a 85 around 200-300k burst dps.

The scaling for 80 is much better beceuase you have 2 expansions gear over you, and Demo is crap for 80 but very decent for 85.

Thanks for the info! Any idea of how much you're able to solo (at 80)? Like, what's considered easy, what's considered hard and what is actually just impossible?

I have found demo to be a lot of fun and very good. You will need to get alchemy instead of herbalism or tailoring.

Stack the heck out of mastery and you can get a lot of HP too. Sacrifice the pet, and thanks to having fel flame instead of void ray, you can just live in metamorphosis form permanently. If you mostly just spam fel flame, you will go up in fury and continuously benefit from the tripled value of mastery in demon form. The major benefit is huge survivability, and 100% mobile dps, as you will never use a single casted spell.

When you want to solo, bring back out the demon in certain fights and I have solod ony 10, most of nax, mount hyjal, and any heroic dungeon, and it is a blast. I found Afflicitions so called higher dps to be mostly theoretical. In pratice demo outperforms 95% of the time, and is more fun and lots less fragile.
