I think this guide should get you started on video editing: Video Editing Guide by Boostz

Note that it is a fairly old guide, but the creator is/was known for being able to make some nice video editing stuff (also any video made by Subjection is also a good idea to have a look at: Sub - 39 Mage Video - 2v2 By Rushz - World of Warcraft Movies). At the very least you should get fraps and ideally Sony Vegas. Windows Movie Maker can also be your choice if you don't plan on editing in something fancy.
