49 Paladin 2H Reckoning Spec

I'm posting this here merely out of speculation and because I'm bored. I always wanted to run a build like this pre-bc but I never got around to actually doing it. Then reckoning took a huge nerf so it seemed pretty pointless to attempt anyway. I was thinking about it quite a bit recently though, and it made me want to try it again even more than usual. I was just wondering if anyone has actually attempted to make this work in this bracket and if so, what was the outcome? Intelligent discussion only please. I'm posting a chardev of the spec and gear I'd attempt to run with something with this. It goes something along the lines of: chardev.org v6 ~ a World of Warcraft character planner I chose Drakefang Butcher over a slower weapon such as Executioner's Cleaver or BAR because I know I can hopefully utilize 3 of the 4 reckoning charges with it. If not, and I can only get 2 with all 3 weapons, then I'll just end up going with BAR or the Cleaver because 2 extra hits with a weapon that has a higher top-end > 2 hits with a fairly low top-end weapon.

I'll probably be running up to my buddies apartment today to use his comp and respec my pally so I can run this spec a bit and see if it can actually do anything. I tend to do random things like this when I'm bored even if they actually don't really work too efficiently. I know this is a pretty ridiculous notion, and it's obviously not going to be as good as it would have been when you could still do "reck bombs" but I still think it might be amusing nonetheless. Especially now that any attack made against you has a chance of proc'ing reckoning rather than critical melee attacks.

definitely an interesting concept....plz test this out asap and get back to us!

only thing i couldnt stand is waiting 10secs on judgments /shudder, obviously overall less damage output (no talents to boost x% damage) but reck burst might prove to be awesome.

I spec'd imp judgements, so it would still be the 8 sec cd that you'd normally have as ret spec. Improved HoJ would help with instant crits from SoC judgements as well. The only problem I'd see with this spec would be mana efficiency when fighting non-melee classes, as you wouldn't be able to gain mana from BoS. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to test it this evening. :-/

It is a misunderstanding that Reckoning works better with fast weapons.

I think I can still find the post where this is explained.

with a faster weapon you get the most uses out of the charges. whether or not that proves to do more damage, or "work better" is unknown to me.

I thought about this, too, but realized your crit chance will be greatly gimped with how few ret talents you actually have access to. Not worth it imo.

But if you're gonna do it, the best talent build imo is Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft. It's got -some- of your essential ret talents while grabbing only the minimum amount of prot talents.

I dunno why you'd take benediction over deflection if you're running a spec like this. Take into consideration that parrying attacks essentially reduces your swing timer by 40% and with blessing of sanctuary up a parry would mean 2% mana regain. I suppose I was looking at a higher effectiveness vs melee attackers so your build would be a little more balanced. Obviously crit chance would be dropped by around 7% in comparison to what you'd be running with a full ret build but it could prove amusing either way. I ended up searching around and finding the vid that inspired me to want to do this years ago with reckoning the way it used to be. Here it is, it's pretty damn funny:

Part 1- [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS_bgdIJHHE&feature=related]YouTube - Killix - Grand Marshal Paladin PVP (Part1)[/ame]

Part 2- [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTlSc1Anwzo]YouTube - Killix - Grand Marshal Paladin PVP (Part2)[/ame] (pretty much a showcase of the better reckoning hits)

Keep in mind this is old school vanilla WoW, prior to a lot of changes and buffs to the paladin class. Also rogues were pretty OP back then, but you can notice that Killix keeps a rogue attacking him in most cases to feed his reckoning charges.

Here's another old reckoning/ret vid that I found amusing. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msOcBP24aRs&feature=related]YouTube - Marx Paladin PVP 4[/ame]

pretty nice vids....makes me miss vanilla more than ever

Lol me too man, I went on a vanilla vid watching rampage last night. God I miss it. I was watching a bunch of hunter vids (I played my hunter most in pre-bc) and watching a hunter with about the same gear as I had originally, 1v2 a couple rogues (1 in HW gear and the other in t1) made me miss it all the more. I've done quite a few things like that myself. My friend would always want to come over and watch me world pvp because I'd end up in 1v2 situations and drop 2 rogues with t2 at the same time, while I was highly undergeared.

Sadly watching these vids also made me realize how accustomed to ez-mode WoW and the hunter class in general I had become. I had completely forgotten the days when you couldn't drop traps in combat and there was an extreme deadzone on hunters. I was watching vids of this hunter FD'ing and then dropping traps and I was like, oh wow I remember when I had to do that, it's been so long. :( In all honesty, I'd rather have it that way, at least the class took a fair amount of skill to play rather than what it's become.

I'm itching to test this 2H ret spec though. I'm getting my friends old desktop later today, so I should have WoW up and running on it by tommorow at the latest, then I'll be pvp'ing my brains out again lol

Ret talents have become a lot better since vanilla lol but good luck tell me how it goes.

BTW blessing of sanctuary ain't so great in PvP even though you don't have access to judments of the wise. 5/5 benediction should be the mana support you need.

There's always tons of pallies in bgs nowadays for the other buffs, having BoS doesn't hurt even for the extra 3% damage reduction. And I know that ret talents have gotten better, that's a completely negligible argument. I was speculating doing this out of boredom rather than it actually being better than a full ret spec.

necro spam ftw. i miss u maerduk.
