4.3 paladin guide

tence

Legend
When I initially made my 19 twink paladin I tried to follow the guides made by ore and grabco and they do seem to give a great general feel for either the most common sets or the main items that you'll be using. After a while of playing though I feel these guides are lacking in some useful/alternative gear sets that will help you get the most out of every situation. My attempt is to not only show basic useful sets but other sets that can be very useful but need more specific circumstances.

This guide will mainly be dealing with holy and ret. My opinion of prot is that given a pug situation (which you will most likely be playing most of the time) prot forces you into one role. If the team has a prot warrior or a druid that can fc then your gimping your team already. Holy on the other hand can easily switch from support to fcing with gear sets. Anyway onto the guide.

Table of contents:

1. Races

2. Talents

3. Professions

4. Gear sets

i) Holy (support)

ii) Holy (fcing)

iii) Ret

5. Wrap up/tips/final thoughts

1. Races

Alliance

Draenei

-racial hot

-racial +1% hit allowing minor gear changes

-racial 19 shadow res (27.54 reduction/resist to fear or shadow damage)

very good choice if you are strictly support

Human

-everyman for himself (2 min cd)

racial frees up a trinket slot allowing for more hp/int/haste

Dwarf

-racial damage reduction (10%)

-racial 19 frost res (27.54 reduction/resistance to frost spells)

probably the best race for strictly fcing due to the racial damage reduction

*In my opinion races go Human>draenei>dwarf unless you are a dedicated healer always rolling with a premade/semi premade then it should be draenei>human>dwarf

Horde

Tauren

-racial 2 sec stun

-racial 19 nature res (27.54 reduction/resistance to nature spells)

-racial +5% base hp

best race for strictly fcing due to the racial stun and hp boost

Blood Elf

-racial silence/interrupt that also restore small amount of mana

-racial 19 arcane res (27.54 reduction resistance to arcane spells and sheep)

-best race for support dude to racial silence and resistance to sheep

*in my opinion races go blood elf >tauren unless you are fcing all the time.

2. Talents

Holy

Shockadin

-3/3 protector of the innocent

-2/3 judgment of the pure

-1/2 blazing light

Fc/support

-3/3 protector of the innocent

-3/3 judgment of the pure

Support

-3/3 protector of the innocent

-2/3 judgment of the pure

-1/2 last word

Retribution

Usual

-3/3 crusade

-2/2 improved judgment

-1/3 rule of law

Alternative(see ret gearsets)

-3/3 crusade

-2/2 improved judgment

1/2 pursuit of justice

3. Professions

your first profession should always be herbalism, period. The haste bonus (55 haste rating) is too valuable regardless of your role. the second is up to what you want your role to be.

Engineering (150/150)

-bombs allow for help while supporting on D

-alternative head armour if you don't have access to boa ones

Mining (225/225)

-gives a +70 hp buff. Needed if dedicated to fcing.

Skinning (225/225)

-9 crit rating buff. very useful for support and ret.

5. Tips

Consumables list for paladins:

Rumsy Rum Black Label

healing potion

lesser mana potion

elixir of wisdom

swiftness potion

elixir of giant growth

elixir of minor fortitude

melon juice

minor wizard oil

Heavy runecloth bandage

very nice! but why the shockadin head in the balanced support set? i use the shaman mail boa one

just my 2 cents. i'll read rest tmmrow!

Might be an idea to write down the item name and then attach a link to the item. It would make the guide a lot easier to understand without opening multiple tabs
<

Make the individual headings bigger and maybe for races put your recommendation. You could, if you wanted to, add good geared twinks armory link so people get Idea.

Another Idea would be to add a macro section (not many that come to mind tho). anyways, looking foward to the finished guide

/Agree

Good guide, just need to make it a bit more attractive
<

edit: Also you should include tips and such, explain how to use each spec etc. - I believe there are like two threads about that, so if you don't know or don't want to bother you could just copy tips from those threads and paste into here.

edit #2: looking through the different healing sets, and it seems to me that no sets are hit capped. It's very vital. The "balanced set" is imo a bit too squishy to be called a "balance set".

Nice guide!

You can scroll over the links and the item shows up, so it's about as easy as just having the item name

I don't see why u want to have Woodworking gloves in balanced set and defenders in the shockadin set. imo u should have more int/crit/dmg in the shockadin set and not armor, since rly, u will be oom before u die anyway.
