39 Frost Mage questions

I made my 39 mage long ago, and I'm in the process of revamping him for 4.0.

I'm hoping the battlegroup merger will let me use him again without having to transfer him.

Are frost mages viable at this bracket?

I used to do really well, but in my one game post 4.0 (an XP-on game, since I had some to burn), I definitely felt weaker (less bursty) than before.



Suggestions or comments on spec or gear choices?

I won't comment on specific gear-pieces, but from what I've experienced, Stamina is just about everything since Frost Magi lost some major defensive abilities (Mana Shield, FB Rank 1) in trade for Water Elemental (a ranged Nova) and Ice Lance. If you aim to play support, Stamina is as previously mentioned everything. However, the major difference is the ability to nuke down a target immensly fast when being able to chain-cast.

I'd suggest trying Arcane, the lethality of the previously rather unexplored spec (I only used it for FCing, being a pain in the ass and playing vs. Priests/Locks before) is rather surprising with the introduction of AB.
