WoD has brought many things that benefit the twinking community. It is a time of opportunity.
To take advantage of this, twinking needs 3 things:
Positive Exposure:
Twinking still carries a bad rap with a lot of people who play. The players who aren't familiar with twinking need to hear about the good things.
I think the Twink Cup could be a huge force for positive exposure if all the rule/epeen/DDoS drama can be squelched.
The podcasts from bisnation do a good job of this. Yoube and HB guest appearance on Realm Maintenance shows someone is paying attention.
The Instance Podcast has small community submitted segments at the end of each show. Someone doing a weekly 2 min spot on twinking could be groundbreaking. Also maybe a guest column on Blizzard Watch.
Positive Community:
All the positive PR in the world will do no good if the community is toxic. Forum trolling asshats, graveyard farming fucktards, DDoSing internet terrorists, and elitist douchebags really hurt growth or at best attract the wrong type of players.
Btags and crossrealm grouping/ wargames have really changed the role of guilds in the Twink community. Some may say they really don't have a role anymore. I think they can be a great way to foster growth both in the number and quality of players. Instead of forming some elite guild to crush the opposition, guilds should be formed to recruit new players from their respective realms and help them improve.
Positive Leadership:
To bring all the above together takes positive leadership. It is the keystone. If you or the community considers yourself to be a leader in the Twink scene, you need to ask yourself with each action you take are you being a positive influence or a negative one?
In closing, I am not saying these things don't already exist. I am saying twinking needs more of these and less of the toxic behavior.
Just two cents from a nobody.
