29 Priest & Chest Choices

I'm considering making a 29 horde priest, and with the heirloom mace now clearly outshining Skullbreaker, the former standard, it opens up three very interesting and different robe choices, each of which are BC enchant-able and very different in strrengths:

It boils down to:

Inferno Robe: High spellpower, no stats

Zealot's Robe: High stam and rounded caster stats, no spellpower

Civinad Robes: High regen, decent stam, no spellpower

+6 stats on any of these is very attractive. 6 MP5 or 15 spirit are attractive for regen purposes. There's always 150 health or 15 Resil for survivability. Hard choices.

On top of that, there's good old Robes of Arugal -- not BC enchantable but decent stats and very nice 12 spellpower.

My main is a Disc priest who I've just started doing some BGs with, and gearing is very different at 80 than in this bracket, especially post 3.1, so curious what others feel are the weak areas of 29 priests to help me decide which robe would help round things out.

I'd personally get all 3 of them and use them situationally, Civinad Robe has always been the priest's standard robe for high mana regen. I'd toss +6 mp/5 on civinad's and use that for a high mana regen set (oiltank's rags from gnomer or gallan cuffs with +4 mp/5 for bracers, mantis boots with vitality etc.) Then put +150 hp on the zealot's for a stam set (gallan cuffs with +12 stam or a 29 of the Eagle with +9 stam as well). And then lastly I would use inferno robes or Arugal's for a spell power set (+6 stats on inferno robes or +4 stats on Arugal's with glowing magical bracers with +15 SP). I've always preferred to have as high of an amount of spell power as possible without sacraficing stats, but that's just my personal play type, getting all 3 of these robes and utilizing them in different gear sets would give you many options depending on the classes you're facing in bgs or how you want to play on that given day. Having a stam set on a priest can make them a very effective at flag running as disc spec.

Edit: Btw what are the stats on the BoA mace for 29 now? Also, I just did a mana regen disc build on char dev but it won't give me a link for it. Anyway, I got it up to 1500 hp 2k mp 119 SP with a 74 mp/5, 110 mana regen, buffed with kings and wisdom, with a 32.6% damage reduction with imp inner fire and glyph of inner fire. Seems pretty sick, but I've never played a priest at 29. I also did a stam build and I got it up to 2718 hp 2410 mp 64 SP with 69 mana regen 43 mp/5 with a 33.27% physical damage as disc. To me, this seems like it would be the most bad ass way to go as your survivability would be through the roof with Imp Power Word Shield and having that much HP at lvl 29 right now would be ridiculous.

Yeah, seems like the best answer to, "which piece of gear should I choose" usually comes down to, "get it all, use situationally". :) Thanks for the reply.

FYI: heirloom mace (50 Emblems of Heroism) at 29:

Devout Aurastone Hammer

Binds to account

Main Hand

(22 damage per second)

+4 Stamina

+6 Intellect

Requires level 1 to 80 (29)

Equip: Restores 1 mana per 5 sec.

Equip: Increases spell power by 23.

So compared to Skullbreaker, DAH nets you +1 Stam, +1 Int, +1 MP5, and 23 Spellpower. It can only be enchanted with classic enchants, but +30 on top of DAH's 23 is still 13 more spellpower than Skullbreaker and +40.

EDIT: Wow, just saw your builds... I think I'd better start shopping...

Don't get the zealot's robe, whatever you do. the mace form the same quest chain is a much better reward (it's one of the only Bc-enchantable items at 29)

lol except DAH has been buffed so that it's better than skullbreaker, even if you put soulfrost on skullbreaker DAH with +30 spell power is only 1 less spell power than the mace with soulfrost and you gain more stats and mp/5. I mean sure, you don't get the cool glow but it's still equivalent if not better...

get 2 boa maces: 1 with 22 int, 1 with healing. then spellsurge the skullbreaker. that's how the real pros do it.

Ya I could see that being superior to 30 int on the skullbreaker. I just dont want to grind that many emblems >.<
