Little winkle's Big 19's Invitational:

Over the past week, I have been in discussion with a number of GMs and other players within the community to discuss the prospect of organizing a final tournament event before the release of TBC. As we near the end of our Classic WoW experience, a number of new guilds have emerged in the 19's twinking scene. I wanted to provide an opportunity for all twinking guilds to test their strength against one another in a Single Elimination tournament.

This will likely be one of the final major events of Classic in the 19’s bracket. My intent is to offer a fun, exciting and competitive event to reinvigorate our bracket before the launch of the Burning Crusade.

Tournament Info:

  • For each round, competing teams will face off in a best of 3 series
  • The completion of each round will depend heavily on the availability of participating teams. Ideally we are looking to have each round completed in a week. As teams are eliminated, in theory, rounds should be completed more quickly. A round cannot be completed until all remaining teams have completed their series.
  • Similarly to the previous Spring 2020 Tournament, we will have a committee of leaders from all participating teams, to help resolve any disputes and any scheduling conflicts that occur during the tournaments
  • One member from each team is required to stream their teams POV - Teams have agreed to a 90 second delay (comms will not be required to be streamed)
  • Additionally, we would require teams submit a screenshot of the scoreboard at the end of each game in their series.

Tournament Rules:

  • Limit of 2 team members of one class, 2 designated healers per team, as well as one other class capable of healing (Paladin, Shaman, Druid - FCs are exempt from this ).
  • No safespotting of any kind
Allowed Consumables/Buffs:

  • Bandages
  • Anti-venoms
  • Healing and Lesser Mana Potions
  • Minor Recombobulators
  • Sharpening Stones, Weight Stones, Wizard Oil
  • Level 15 vendor food and water
  • Buffs from the specific comp being played (ex: cannot have Blessing of Might and Wisdom with only 1 Paladin in group, or Arcane Intellect with no Mage in group)
Banned Consumables/Buffs:

  • All other Flasks, Well Fed buffs, Holy Spring Water, & Stat/ character size enhancing potions.
  • All Bombs, Raw Deviate Fish, Magic Resistance Potions, Rumsey, Magic Dust, Feathered Arrows, Swiftness Potions, Thistle Tea
  • Buffs that do not exist in a level 19 spellbook (ex: Fear Ward)
  • Class buffs stronger than those in a level 19 spellbook (ex: 20 Stam Fort)
  • World buffs and quest buffs (ex: Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer, Blood Shard buffs)
Naxx Enchants:
  • Shoulder enchants from Naxxramas will be legal in this tournament.

Team Eligibility:

Eight teams is the optimal number for a tournament of this format. Traditionally, only active guilds can compete in tournaments with players who are members of that guild. While the majority of the participating teams will be active guilds, there may still be a few slots to fill.

At this phase of Classic WoW, many twink guilds are not completely active and do not have a full roster to participate but may still be eager to compete. There are also an abundance of twinks who are not currently affiliated with a twinking guild but are active in the bracket and may also want to compete in this tournament. I think this presents a unique opportunity for partially active guilds to acquire independent players or temporarily combine their strength with another partially active guild to obtain enough players to compete. If this would pertain to you or your guild please feel free to reach out to me, and we will do our best to see what arrangements can be made.

*A reminder to everyone, no player participating in this tournament can play for more than one team. Once you have played a game with a team in this tournament, you are committed to that team, win or lose.

Guild / Team leaders, please let me know by April 7th, if your guild is intending on participating in the tournament.

The first round will begin on Wednesday, April 14th.

Update** (04/08/2021) - "Delay of Game" Penalty

As I have mentioned (many times) it's my goal to be as “hands off” as possible, and not need to interfere in any scheduled games. In order for the tournament to proceed, there will need to be a decisive winner and loser of each game. I really do enjoy the fact that teams have a variety of different strategies they employ in games, and I only want to regulate/restrict that under the most extreme circumstances.

Since I am participating in the tournament, I believe that this role would best assigned to someone who has no affiliation to any guild active in the tournament. Wouch & Jehuda (who will be also be shout casting numerous games) will take the primary responsibility for this role. If neither of them are available to oversee a game, this will have to be assigned to another player whose guild is not participating in the tournament.

The implementation of this rule would not begin until 45 minutes in to a game.

After 45 minutes, if any team is engaging in death-balling thereafter, which is defined as either turtling or stalling in mid as a 10 man or pushing in to the enemy base as an entire team with no progress continuously and is unwilling to separate their offense and defense for longer then 15 minutes, it will be asked of both teams to withdraw and develop in to normal Offense/ Defense splits. If a team is blatantly unwilling to comply with this, they may be met with additional repercussions and if it continues to persist, the team violating this rule would have to forfeit that game in the series.

If you have any questions about the set up or rules of this tournament, please feel free to reach out to me here or on discord (DrunkenDwarf#6206). May the odds ever be in your favor!

Update (03/22/2021): At this point the following teams are confirmed for the Tournament:

- Covid 19
- Spacebar
- Keefers Inc.
- We Out Here
- DDG
- Kekw
- BTNE

Only one more team will be needed to get us to our goal of 8 teams!

Ok so we came up a little short.... but 7 teams is still really good given that we are this late in to classic vanilla and are all eagerly anticipating TBC. I'm now ready to post the bracket.

if u want old guilds to come back u should probably ban naxx enchants cos idt anyone would spend 1k just to play in one tournament if they have not been active this entire time.

Ok the mid-March time frame was a bit ambitious. We are looking at setting the start date of the tournament on Wednesday, April 14th for the following reason:
1. Give teams more time to assemble
2. Acquire Naxx enchants.
3. More ideal time for several guilds to schedule games.

With regards to the Naxx enchants. While many players still do lack this enhancement, it is something that is nearly impossible to police in premades. By moving the start date this will give players an ample period of time to make arrangements to get these. Naxx enchants will be much more complicated to get in BC, so now is the ideal time for players to get these.

Congratulations to Spacebar for their victory over BTNE in the final matchup. I'm very pleased that we were able to make it all the way through in roughly 4 weeks time. Overall, I would rate the event as a B+. I think for the most part things went well but there are certainly areas that could have been improved upon.

When I was first looking in to creating a tournament, I spent sometime looking over feedback following previous tournaments. I would like to hear back from those who participated or as well as those who were watching the tournament from the outside. I think this would be helpful for anyone who may be intending on hosting a tournament in BC.

Firstly, thank you to Parry and anyone else who has organised community events in classic - Hass, Daboo, Bowner, Fortitude. I wish that my schedule and circumstances wouldve allowed me to compete in these, they were always incredibly entertaining and overall a great display of our community, and we should be proud of each other.

I know that I've turned it into a meme, but I honestly think that the entire classic meta has been hamstrung by allowing double mage. With how powerful mages are at CC, the entire classic strategy was practically built around how to best utilise your own mages and how to reduce the effectiveness of the enemy mages.
I love shamans. I love warlocks. I love paladins even. I would love to see a meta in which all of the classes are represented. Even though mages and CC in general is getting rebalanced in TBC, I would love to see a one toon limit on both mages and hunters to encourage more variety with team comps. TBC meta SHOULD be faster, with the stacking debuff on FCs, but this mechanic may also force teams to play more defensively.
Personally, the idea of enforcing splits seems crazy to me. It's a strategy to run as a "deathball". Putting rules on splits seems antithetical to the natural evolution of strategy and meta formation. Harking back to Hass' tournament and the infamous 3 hour game - I would've much preferred to have seen certain consumables be allowed after x-amount of time had elapsed. For example; after 30 min, bombs allowed. After 1hr, speed pots allowed. After 90 min, rocket boots allowed. Maybe after that, Health Pots, Mana pots and bandies are DISALLOWED. Concepts like that. Hass' tournament and the subsequent forfeiture of the team that may very well have won the tournament was an absolute disaster, and I hope that whoever is organising a tournament in the future could learn from the mistakes of Classic 19s.

Again, thank you particularly to Parry, and all the casters and competitors for a fantastic viewing experience. Looking forward to TBC!
