Can I go to....?

As a lvl 20, I know we can't go to Northrend or Outland. However, I read that mages can transport other players. For example, I tried to go through a mage's portal to Dalaran, and wasn't able to. But - is there another way they can do this? Or for that matter, is there some other way I can get to these places?

Outland yes northrend no.

Outland through dark portal or mage summon is the only way

I thought you could go to northerend if you downloaded the full version, correct?

I think you need WotLK to get to Northrend, the continent is restricted to players that have that expansion. No matter what method you use to get there

As long as your account is Starter of Battlechest (Vanilla+ TBC; the standard upgrade of a Starter Account will net you this), you can not get to Northrend by any means. if you take the boat/zeppelin, you'll die & ghost at the local (non-Northrend) GY.

Outland you can get into as 'Battlechest' is the standard default game (ie Vanilla accounts got a free upgrade, which was actually less positive for those with maxxed out 60's on a former Vanilla account), Cata zones because they're part of The Sahttering, but Northrend is in its own little time-warp, trapping Darkrider Arly and such away from us.

The dark portal is located in the Blasted Lands.

Or you can have a mage use this or a warlock use this which will require another person in the party at the warlocks location.

Just wanted to confirm this... we can actually get through the Dark Portal at level 20? I thought it used to be level restricted.

Nope we can go through it the level restriction is on the portals in SW/Org that take you to the dark portal.

This is great news. A whole new continent to explore as a lowbie!

I made it to the Dark Portal and Outland - only there's not much exploring and quite a lot of dying. As a stealthy rogue, I'm accomplished at sneaking around enemies, but when you're a lowbie, the mobs see you from a mile away, stealthed or not. I finally made it to Halaa (for the Whiskey) using a technique I call "the corpse advance." I set my hearthstone to Shattrath, and from there fly to Telaar. Then I run over to Halaa...but Alas! as has been said before, you can only hold 3 whiskeys at a time.

That being said, it was exciting to check out the new scenery with my intrepid little gnome.

I went through the portal today and got my fps in Hellfire, Zangar, Shatt, Nagrand, Blade's Edge and Netherstorm.

I died once on the run from the portal to Thrall.

Once going through the pass from Hellfire to Zangar.

Once going from Shatt to Garadar.

Twice going from Garadar to the troll town in West Zangar.

Once in the spider tunnels leading to Blades Edge... (I spirit rezzed there... those caves are a death trap!)

About 4 times on the pass from Evergrove to Netherstorm

Twice in the eco-bubble between Area 52 & Stormspire.

That's about a dozen deaths to get a lot of flight paths and 4 new pets

. I was pretty pleased. Exploration achievements will be absolutely brutal, though. It seems like there are some flying-only subzones in Outland, so I may not have to bother with those achievements.

It was nostalgic running through those zones, though. I haven't had to do that since BC when we didn't get flight form until 68.
