New Player questions :)

Hey fellow Twinks,

i have started playing in this bracket about 3 weeks ago, when I found out, by accident, that there still is a way to twink without having xp turned off. And it blew my mind how much there is to do and farm! =)

I am a linked F2P account playing on EU, currently Alliance on Silvermoon. (I noticed for F2P stacking mastery is a bit harder since it comes mostly from greens?)

Now I am running into a “problem“ that keeps demotivating me a bit. :/ I started out as a healer paladin (i love healing in pvp) but I realized that I am the biggest bulletsponge ever created, when I heal in this bracket. That made it pretty annoying, since the ppl focussing me are mostly hunters with nuclear damage.

Then I tried frost DK so i can just be as disruptive as possible. That felt a bit better because I am not the prime bulletsponge anymore and i can slow and pull them into bad spots so my team can try and kill them (or their healers).

Since I am new in this bracket I dont really know anyone and queue alone. Often resulting in matches with 3-5 hunters (and ofc 2-3 healers on their team) against my team.

This is not ment as a crying baby post, I just want to ask the people, who have been playing in this bracket (against this stuff) forever, some questions! :)

1. How do u guys deal with these hunters?
2. What class could i play (without becoming a hunter myself) to have a bit easier times? (Stealthers to stunlock and kill them, like rogue or bite druid? - i know healers should be bigger prio with CC-chains, or just pressuring them, to force them to care more about themselves)
(3. I guess get every tinker and gadget in the world to deal with the hunter dmg?)

Sadly resto druid isnt so good in (raw) healing in this bracket (i main druid normally), else i would have a bit easier time playing with their range to outrange them.

I am looking for a bit of help, since i really (!) enjoy this bracket (!) when there is like only 1-2 hunters on the enemy team! (I love the class diversity when that actually happens. It feels like its own endgame! :D) Thank you for reading this wall of text and for any helpful comments / suggestions / tipps! <3

Cheers

1. eh, sometimes you dont. Just acknowledge that sometimes you cant stop a 12 year old from banging your mom on halo voice com and playing a hunter. They are just kids and nothing youre gonna do is gonna stop them so just go with the flow. Kids are BM af.

2. Every class is viable and most specs are. Dont play around hunters, play around you and have fun. You can also use the bloodthorn ring, they usually have goldfish memory and will forget you exist if you go invis.

3. heal belt is nice.

Hey, I'm also on EU, Argent dawn. I'll go straight to the point - how well is your character geared?
Once you're well geared you'll see that you can do pretty well against most hunters.
Learn your class well and position accordingly. I know hpals who tank multiple people while healing. It's a strong healer. Pay attention to the most effective ones as those are the ones that will cause you troubles. In a balanced game that isn't a stomp for one side you can do much. Otherwise you'll just get camped in gy no matter what you're playing.
The majority of hunters on horde press only dmg buttons so you won't experience the full power of the class most of the time. There are a few ones that are scary but the majority are gy farm material.
Play what you like and learn it. You'll be surprised how much more you can do on most classes than what you normally do. We might have a few spells only but mechanically there's a lot you can do. Ignore hipster specs unless you honestly enjoy it.

Thank you for the fast answer. My Paladin is not rly geared (https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb/character/eu/silvermoon/opalsgrace), aswell as my DK (he only has MoP greens). I was a bit scared of investing a lot of time (I am basically F2P with no AH access to speed gearing up) into a character that is just going to be melted anyways. So I tried around to get a feel for the bracket. Maybe that was the wrong way. :x

I used a lot of guides from this forum (btw thank you to all these awesome creators!!) and cigs tier list video. (are u the creator of the twinkdb? If yes, that thing is amazing! :D)

So yea I hope that answers the above question. Just trying to figure out, where to actually invest a lot of time in farming to.

Hm maybe that is actually what I should do. Have been trying so hard to figure out how I can be a threat to them / make them feel a bit miserable.. xD Have the invis ring on my DK, its amazing!

You're basically a leveler with this gear. There's absolutely no way you could be effective vs twinks.

That being said, do you have a high level account with active sub, do you have access to chromie time and are you willing to get game time for gear? I could point you in the right direction I guess

Pick one hunter every game and camp them. Make a target macro. Ignore everything else and just make this guy's day miserable. If enough people band together maybe we can get them to reroll.

Otherwise, use a trinket so they can't freezing trap > aimed shot > scatter shot > aimed shot. Frag belt interrupts aimed shot, spinal injector basically heals one aimed shot. I swap between the two. LoS when you can. Use defensive trinkets if you need to like https://www.wowhead.com/item=37220/essence-of-gossamer?bonus=6710 or https://www.wowhead.com/item=27770/argussian-compass?bonus=6710 .

Also yeah, your gear isn't there yet. You can check out the website in Ivo's signature for help there - https://twinkdb.github.io/

Otherwise check the armory and find somebody to emulate

I have a max lvl char with active sub and I have access to chromie time. That accounts playtime is running out in 7 days and I thought I could maybe just make a vet there and not resub. Then again on Silvermoon the AH doesnt have many greens that are gem-able. :/ In theory I am willing to put on a sub on one of my accs to gear a character, though I wanted to try it as a pure F2P since the gear is pretty expensive on the AH. xD

I would greatly appreciate a tip in the right direction. :) I checked tons of armory chars that are linked here and know what to roughly go for, depending on the class.

That is some good tips, thank you! :) As written above, I am doing the emulation, just wasnt sure on what class to actually invest the time for farming.

His question was mainly for chromie time or running 2 accs to boost yourself to make tbc gearing a million times easier.

If you're still deciding which classes to gear first, it can be worthwhile to see how different classes and specs compare with each other (in PvE or PvP), even with simple ilvl 28 MoP-vendor greens. Especially when the time it takes to get gemmed/etc. as a F2P can be many multiple times longer than it does to level another class to 20, get MoP ilvl 28 vendor gears, and see how they feel with that.

While all specs can be "viable" (also depending on what one means by "viable"), one can say that some are more "viable" than others (either in damage, heals, mobility, utility, or survivability or all five). Although more specs are definitely viable now than in previous expansions.

Being gemmed/enchanted/competently-played/etc. allows more specs to shine relative to a level-geared spec, though the "balance between specs" after gemmed/enchanted/etc. can be similar to the "balance between specs" when all are in starter-gears.

Yea I have leveled more chars, the ones mentioned in my first post are just the ones i put a little bit time in to. Had a druid, priest, mage and warlock. (with ur mentioned greens) But I always bumped into the hunter problem. I think Goesid is right about not playing around them.^^

Ok so first you have to know the twink realms. Those are ravencrest, stormscale that have the most items. Other realms are also popular although the majority of trading is in guilds.

While some pieces can be expensive, you can skip some and it won't hurt you that badly. Depending on spec and slot a tbc item could be better than a green socketed one. I'd say for most slots and specs that's true.

Decide what you want to play and get at least gems, enchants, engineering and alchemist flask on your subbed acc before game time expires. Gems are a huge grind as f2p as you can only craft 1 northrend gem a day and no other gems. Engineering can be a pain as well as f2p. Alchemy takes a few hours but with all the other grind you won't have time for it. AH makes things much easier.

There are builds for some classes on twinkdb that were written by people who have exp with them. Armory thread isn't a great source of information as pretty much everyone makes it on there and it's full of badly geared chars. This doesn't mean all of them are bad but it would be hard for a new player to find a good example.

When you decide what you want to play, ask again and I could give you a basic list of items to go for for starters.

Druid is fine. All specs in the right hands, really.
If you like druids, I'd say go for it. Getting used to the game-pace of the bracket is half the battle.
Good luck!

Honestly druids a great choice but yes hunters will still be hunters and as a healer you’re always going to be the number one target - as a f2p you’re going to end up sinking ALOT of time into this one character so picking a class you actually enjoy playing and want to play is your best bet

Welcome to Twinking in SL & onwards! Glad you've found us.

The answer for hunters is the same as it is for any strong adversary: communication with your team & focused damage.
The biggest problem with them is: they're utility kit is pretty vast at low level & they're obscenely over-powered; but even if they weren't, they're still so much fun to play!
Don't over extend, use the terrain when possible to LoS them, & save your stun/eng grenades for the Surv's when they leap out to chew on you.

As for gearing: https://twinkdb.github.io/ has tons of info on that. ilvl28 BoE greens are not included, as there is way too much variety to warrant listing; but as Hpal you'll likely want to go with Aurora ( Haste/Vers ) or Harmonious ( Vers/Mast ).

You may want to consider going with the https://www.wowhead.com/item=28225/doomplate-warhelm?bonus=6710 & https://www.wowhead.com/item=27771/doomplate-shoulderguards?bonus=6710 for the + 11 crit, meta gem slot & additional armor the plate provides, though many don't as the stats are less favorable for a healing spec.
The https://www.wowhead.com/item=37395/ornamented-plate-regalia?bonus=6710 is a nifty option for an Hpal too. While it's short one gem-slot, It's massive Vers makes it attractive; the drawback being you cannot que for https://www.wowhead.com/utgarde-pinnacle . Many opt for the https://www.wowhead.com/item=28401/hauberk-of-desolation?bonus=6710 & https://www.wowhead.com/item=27528/gauntlets-of-desolation?bonus=6710 for the favorable haste / Gem-slot total, but you have to get them in Legacy loot mode.

It's hard to deal with twink hunters, especially when you are a melee class. Best thing to do is be aware of your positioning. Don't dive hard into the enemy team and expect your team to followup and healers to keep topping you off, learn to kite and reposition.

Thanks for all the helpful answers! :) I think I will do as most of u say and play resto druid. (and maybe at some point gear into cat, but for now I want to heal.) Additionally I will have a DK (maybe as the vet version as suggested from @Ivo )

Is there any resto druids who I should look up on the armory, to get a starting point for gear? (I guess its versa and crit or haste?)

Versa haste, with lots of int is best imo. Mine has around 26-7 versa, around 20% haste and full +3 int gems. You can also go for +2int/+2vers or +2int/+2haste gems if you're into secondaries.

Without access to twink items on AH these will perform almost as good and difference will be barely noticeable:

https://www.wowhead.com/item=27492?ilvl=25
https://www.wowhead.com/item=27411?ilvl=25 (legacy loot as it's cloth armor)

https://www.wowhead.com/item=88273?ilvl=25 / any versa/haste neck on twinkdb if you want some haste as well
https://www.wowhead.com/item=159458?ilvl=25 (farm it until it procs a socket) / https://www.wowhead.com/item=155381?ilvl=25 (can proc a socket, 1 time drop) / https://www.wowhead.com/item=160985?ilvl=25 (can proc a socket, 1 time drop) / https://www.wowhead.com/item=9447?ilvl=25
For rings, farm the ring from atal dazar with socket and try the 2 rares hoping for a socket proc. If they don't proc, it's fine just use them without the socket or farm Lagnut if you want more vers.

https://www.wowhead.com/item=119414?ilvl=25 - daily drop, can proc a socket. Just kill the rare every day until you get a socket.

For main hand weapon, check the caster section on twinkdb. There are a few quest items that can proc and upgrade to blue/purple. Those would be best. (https://www.wowhead.com/item=37041&ilvl=24, https://www.wowhead.com/item=38135&ilvl=24, https://www.wowhead.com/item=61110&ilvl=24) Otherwise get a blue/purple dungeon drop. (https://www.wowhead.com/item=20647&ilvl=25, https://www.wowhead.com/item=17780&ilvl=26)
https://www.wowhead.com/item=17943/fist-of-stone?ilvl=25 is also nice if you have mana issues.
Offhand - Try the rare for https://www.wowhead.com/item=160447?ilvl=25. If you want you can also farm https://www.wowhead.com/item=158322&ilvl=25 with socket or farm chests in Wetlands for a https://www.wowhead.com/item=13031?ilvl=27

Be sure to check the items on twinkdb as they're all obtainable and I could've missed some.

I should add a f2p resto build on there tbh.
