F2P Community Leader
Hey just wanted some members of the community to share their experience of the past and how have things really changed since 2011.
If you can please elaborate on these things as well.
CATACLYSM
I remember when BGs were very competitive and not too many players were just running lose. On EU I knew many people that were very serious about gear so bgs were always intense. The whole aggramar crew would be gearing alts and other characters just as alliance Maz Mag and TN would be.
To make that even more intense there were multiple 24s that you could expect to see in those bgs. Clinic , Goblinhood , Interlope , Rusty was seen so much but true made games a challenge. Then of course your had the GSC who would show up at times and bgs really would get going.
Regular days would go really well , you could q a bg and lose 3-1 and notice that not many people you know are there but as you keep qing the players start popping up. It was nothing like seeing Cripzblood Mysterios Trickynick Flipzmytoast Moonseeker and so many others start to pile on the team. In at least 3 Qs you were ready for hordes aggramar and 24s not to mention there was at least 2 different bg groups you would get matched against constantly. This means 1 team might consist of a few 24s and f2ps while the other was more of a horde f2p premade.
Then I know all of you remember the Call to Arms days. Sitting just chilling waiting for call to arms to activate knowing you were going to see so many known f2ps all day. Keep in mind this is during the time many didn't have Of the Alliance tittle but through time it started to show up so many wanted to grind for it.
WSG call to arms were difficult at times because you might see about 4 24s on a team but once alliance team was stacked enough we were able to put the hunters and rogues on 1 target and land a kb while our druid or paladin caps.
AB call to arms were really fun to me because you would catch a good fight at BS then if you won you knew a group bigger was going to come back or sometimes we would just group up and challenge them at Farm.
You started to learn other people playstyle and what they did well. There was not as much community mixing and most times the only time you communicated with some of the other people were through bgs.
People were really dedicated to their specific realm and fraction as well. Back in cata we really had good use of classes such as rouges hunters and ret paladins would be used to score kills will our rdruid prot pal rsham would secure capping. Communication was very high because everyone wanted to make sure everybody were doing their role and if you weren't people would remember lol.
Mazrigos had Dressman Altomar/Torham Yeko Imblue Mokkie/Allison Axgret Theclawer(me) and a few others and had a reliable 5 man impact on many bgs.
Normally having a priest rsham hunter rogue paladin set up at times because we didn't want to sit in a 11-13 minute q and not be able to compete when bgs Qs were more slow.
Arena Grand Master
Gear was much more special back then clearly , Having double AGM back in cata meant you probably fought for it.
In cata AGM was way more than just getting the trinket and being happy it was a everyman for themselves between many 20s and a few 19s. You could catch many 20s with their pvp on because many sat their and played bgs so when they came out it was go time. Had many fights vs like 4 other 20s and then the hidden 19 trying to ninja.
Classes
Classes were much more unique back then as well.
They had more abilities and talent tree that actually made a difference at times.
My favorite cata class could of easily been hunter in 4.3 because it was so powerful and basically could destroy most things in its path.
Hunter is not my favorite though.
Tell me do yall remember 4.2 prot paladins , to me the most fun and multitasking class f2p has ever seen.
It could FC be a melee dps , had decent heals and could range better than some range.
You probably know this if you played back then but Prot pal had multiple different builds and going strength was not even the preferred way for many. Exorcism was really a great spell for f2ps it is the sole reason hunters did not just face roll a full geared paladin all the time in 4.3
Similar to the oldschool player of wow Cata was the start of f2p and you met people through gameplay interactions and progressed many characters during the same time. I remember everyone inspecting me and other people asking about gear and how to obtain things such as LFH and AGM. Though things have changed over time lets never forget what F2P really was, it was truly a tight community built upon everyone needed each other in order to be successful in bgs and have fun. People truly appreciated the help the strats and gear that a player had back in cata because it really made a difference.
One thing that changed a lot over the years is the amount of impact 1 player can have on a bg. In cata you could really make a difference if a team had 3 under geared players and that 498 health warlock. One reason for this was many times if you have bad geared people the opposing fraction rogues would spend all day shadow stepping ambush 1 shotting them.
Another thing to remember is how I didn't enjoy the rogues who sat hidden all day the shadow stepped a target once you got them to 10% , then at the end of the bg they will say I got 22 kbs and your like ok yeah whatever.
Big props to all the players who made cata what it was and I wanted to give a shout out to Reham because he was in a ton of BGs back then non stop.
If you can please elaborate on these things as well.
