Twink Cup - The good and bad from JCM

Hello, I'd like to talk about a few things regarding the Twink Cup, both good and bad. Read if you'd like to but it probably won't be very interesting, and there won't be a TL;DR.

First, the things that disappointed me personally:

I guess number 1 would be the fact that our hunter was being DDOS'd during both of our series with SR. Kevi was hit off in every game (except for one I believe?) against SR at crucial moments and he was also being hit off for roughly an hour prior to our first series as well, causing us a lot of stress and throwing us off our game since our team did not have a replacement to fill his slot. Of course in the end it's definitely our own fault for not being properly protected (he was proxied but did not change his IP, which is obviously useless if someone had his IP ahead of time), but it makes me sad that players would do something like that and put a damper on the cup as a whole.

Secondly, the fact that SR was able to stall for so long between matches on us and pretty much screw us around late into the night was just insane. This is an issue I specifically asked for an answer on about a week ago ( ) in the main thread and I was ignored, which is very frustrating considering this same issue essentially came to bite our team in the end. After waiting for nearly 45 minutes, I had to basically spam Myrm on battletag (and then HB after I didn't get a response for 5 minutes) to speak with him regarding the insane delay we were having to sit through (especially with the cup pushed several hours back to begin with). After complaining on Curse voice to them I finally managed to get them to set 10 minute time limit between games which was then announced on stream. Of course, in the future the rule was not needed, however I think it's a little ridiculous that something like this was not in place before the cup even began.

We went into our first series against SR guns blazing and managed to go 2-0 against them after some extremely close games, but then we were forced to wait for around 5 hours late into the night due to tons of delays between games while these other teams were still playing, and obviously that's going to make a team of people sitting in their chairs for hours get tired and just be unprepared to play. I'm not saying this is the main reason we performed poorly in the end, but our communication was severely lacking and our decision making overall was very poor compared to the first series and I'm sure it showed on stream to the viewers. It sucks, but it is what it is.

If there is a twink cup in the future, there NEEDS to be a rule to prevent delay, and it needs to be strongly enforced. It's very unfair and not fun for anyone, viewers or players, to deal with. The stream dropped to a pitiful amount of viewers at the end of the cup and it's pretty obvious why that was.

However I guess this brings me to my last disappointment - organization for the cup in general. As some people may know, I've personally organized tournaments in a different bracket, so it was extremely frustrating that there was very little communication between players and twink cup staff prior to the cup as well as during it. It felt as though the only time a concern was addressed was when there was a thread created with dozens of people complaining. As well as that, things like rules being altered mid-series, schedules being changed the day before the cup etc. should not be happening.

Anyway, onto the good stuff.

First, I'll say this cup the most fun I've had in WoW in years. It was fun to come back to the game and just get to play with friends whom I've known for a long time, along with the new players on our team I've just recently met and have a good time throughout the last two months preparing and then playing in the cup. This **** was never about the money, the "twink cup winner" title, or anything else like that, since the beginning it was just having fun with some friends in one last event in this game as WoW continues to hemorrhage subs with no real saving grace in sight.

- Huge shoutout to Myrm, HB, and everyone else involved in organizing the Cup. Although we weren't pleased with the way some things were handled, we're still extremely grateful that we were able to participate in the event because as I've said, it was really fun.

- Thanks to all the teams we've played against in the past couple months to prepare for the cup, specifically WFS (it's really a shame that you guys didn't make it further), MIS/PING, BTB and HARVEST. Another thanks to all the players who pugged in premades for us when we were struggling to fill a roster early into our guilds development.

- Mad respect to GSC for pretty much coming out of nowhere and shocking us (and I'm sure tons of other people) with a very original comp and dominant playstyle in mid.

- Props to SR for being able to pull the finals back from us. We had some of the craziest back and forth matches throughout all the games we played, it was extremely fun to play against you guys especially considering we never once had any exhibition games against you guys prior to the cup.

Personally I'm done with 19s with the conclusion of the cup, and this would have happened regardless of if we won the cup or not. I'm sure no one cares anyway because I was a fairly unknown player here, but I really only came to the bracket for the competitive premade aspect; pugs just don't really provide me with a lot of entertainment. Regardless of that, I hope the bracket will continue to survive and I'm sure it will with the amount of passionate players that are here. If 39s become a thing, I'm fairly sure JCM will be making a guild there to play, so I hope we'll see some activity in that bracket as well.

Trashglamour aka Boostz has been recording our matches and is in the process of creating a video of our twink cup run (with all the skype hype and communication included) and will probably be releasing it in the next week, so if you're interested in that kind of thing keep an eye out.

If there's a twink cup 2016, J C M B O Y Z will definitely be back.

My thoughts pretty much echo this post. I personally was interested in the concept of the NWL but with the conclusion of this tournament and the fact that a couple members of staff who were a part of the twink cup also being admins for the NWL, I have no desire to be a part of that event at this stage.

Thank you all so much to all the players, teams, supporters, commentators, spectators and staff that organized this event. Even with certain things souring the experience, overall it still remains one of the best twink events I will likely be a part of.

Cheers all.

Good games.

to be frank, sudo asked us if we could wait for kevi to fix his situation during our first series and we obliged. In the finals Zeiren was having internet issues and we had to wait for him to get it fixed.. Which didn't really happen he was lagging after the first game.

it was ****** that it went so long, I actually had to go to work with 0 sleep. RIP

Good post! Agree there were some fairly big screw-ups in the administration of the tournament. It's a shame that these tournaments do not happen on a more consistent basis, as that would allow for ironing out of issues that went unseen prior to this event.

Shouldn't have used skype im afraid, famous for getting peoples ip rather easily. Thanks for making the Twink Cup so exciting, mad props towards JCM for that!

I am not going to reiterate my entire post in the thread below..

The jist of is, that the finals should have been held on a separate day. That way the teams could have prepared and had no excuses. And that the time schedule must be adhered to if you are going to have any assemblance of organization.

cheers

Originally SR was hoping the finals could be rescheduled to another day due to time constraints but JCM couldn't so we played on.

it was late.. both teams were tired and we tried to get the finals pushed back to a later date.. the committee said that if both teams wanted to push it back they would... you guys refused.. so tbh trying to call us out for stalling games late in the night is kinda dumb but whatever. sorry bout kevi and i agree with alot of the otherstuff u said

anyways gg <3 hope to see u again next year and maybe in 39s in the near future

At any rate, what is done is done. Best we all can do is learn from the experience. The worst we can do is not learn from it.

JCM got ****** over with that long wait. So not fair to them at all. JCM is clearly the better team, with their performance in previous sets vs different teams being really great.

subs listed on teams rosters were generally there for trolling purposes and many teams didnt actually have subs resulting in 40+ minute waits when one player forgot to change their IP (I didnt realize until a week after rosters were due that i was actually a sub. i don't even have a 19)

the administration realized 2 games into the finals that ghosting might be a problem and decided to add delay to the stream

the team name/scores overlay was wrong so often that the stream had to be restarted mid series (GSC vs SR) just to double check the score from the previous games. if the team names and scores are switched 90% of the time, what's the point of even having them there?

4 games were played on the first day and the entire 15 series loser bracket was saved until the last day, causing the final day to run 4 hours over the original projected end time

before the flaming begins, don't forget that there was a lot of stuff that the administration did correctly to handle a tournament of this magnitude as well that i'm not going to list here.

i'm in no way trying to downplay the huge amount of time and effort that the administration put in---this is just stuff that the majority of players/viewers would like to see changed for next time.
